Watch Your Life and Doctrine

Watch Your Life and Doctrine

"Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers."

I Timothy 4:16

As christians, there are two essentials of christianity that we must guard constantly, our testimony and our doctrine. A sound doctrine must be consistent with a blameless life. A life with good doctrine alone without a good christian testimony is a powerless christianity. It has no impact to the fallen world and incapable of creating change in the society. Having sound doctrine alone is not sufficient to be a powerful church. A sound doctrine must be coupled with a righteous living.

On the other hand, observing a good moral life but supporting a heretic teaching is much worse. There are many cults which observe highly moral life, practice charity, true brotherhood and christian love. But if you will examine closely their doctrines, they have greatly astrayed from the truth.

The true church of JesusChrist is a dynamic church which maintains sound biblical doctrines and it has a powerful testimony to the world. Their lives are consistent with the teachings of Christ. This church truly lives out the teachings of Christ. They demonstrate lives greatly transformed by the Word of God. This church has the potential to bring a tremendous impact to the society just like the New Testament church of the first century which turned the world upside down during that time.

We have to persevere constantly in order to maintain a good testimony and a sound doctrine, for in persevering for these things, we will gain not only a perfect confidence and security as believers in Christ, but a life evidenced by God's power and steadfast truth.
