What scripture says on how to defeat hose Giants

There is a famous story in the Bible in the Book of Samuel where we find God wanting another King to be anointed after King Saul’s reign. King Saul had abused his power and began to rule the Israelites in his own will and was not listening to God any longer.

So the prophet Samuel was instructed by God to anoint another King from the house of Jessie. Jessie was David’s father and David was the youngest in the family, he was a young Shepard boy only 15 years old. David was a man after God’s own heart as it states in Acts 13:22.

The moral to this story is that Israel had a “giant” that they were trying to destroy before it destroyed them, and his name was Goliath. This 9 foot giant tantalized the people and cursed the God of Israel, he basically was a big pain in the side of King Saul. One day David who God loved very much, went up to King Saul and told him he would face and destroy that giant. Everyone of course laughed at the thought of this young boy taking on Goliath. King Saul himself even tried to equip David with all of his amour, but David refused. He only used rocks and a sling shot. That is all the weapon he needed, besides having God on his side. Not my choice of weapons but remember God was with him. In order to accomplish this defeat he also needed to be “prepared” and David was, as a Shepard he had practiced by slaying cougars and bears who tried to kill his sheep time and time again. We can certainly learn from this young man by preparing and practicing what we learn from God’s words of wisdom. By keeping our faith strong and not waivering. By reading God’s word and spending time with Him each and every day, and never giving up when we need a victory in our life. This is our greatest weapon.

We also need to have “determination” as did David. He was so determined to slay that giant that even though he was smaller and not as strong he had a strategy and plan which he believed would do the job with God as his shield and strength. He believed that with God at his side he could do the impossible. God was greater than any giant he could ever face. I admire this type of faith and courage. Then the last thing he had was “authority” from All Mighty God. He prayed for the victory under God’s own authority. We too need to remember this when we are faced with giants in our every day life. These can be additions of some sort, anxieties, depression, fears, jealousy and insecurities.

David reached into his shepherds bag and took out a stone, he hurled it from his sling and hit Goliath in the forehead. So David triumphed over the giant with only a stone and a sling. Goliath had cursed David by the names of his God’s. David shouted back and said “you come to me with sword, spear and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord Almighty – the God of the armies of Israel whom you defied. Today the Lord will conquer you and I will kill you and cut off your head”. David defeated Goliath by slinging that rock into Goliath’s weakest area, we too can do this and conquer our giants.

But we have to prepare spiritually, and have a strong determination and by the Authority given to us by our Savior Jesus Christ we can overcome any stronghold. The Evil one will have us believing and will hold us captive unless we do something to change our situation. Believe in God, never lose faith and be prepared to have victory in any situation that comes your way.

Good film to watch called "Facing the Giants"

There is a great movie that I watched just the other evening on TBN called “Facing the Giants” it’s a Christian film. It very clearly illustrates the power of God in our lives, even though the circumstances we face may seem impossible. In this film the under dogs football team faced a much bigger, stronger and more qualified team called the “Giants”. In this film the coach would always have his team pray before a game and remind them that they still needed to give God the glory whether they won the game or lost. I will not spoil the movie for you, but it’s a must see movie for any age group, especially teenagers. It will encourage you in your faith in God. I know it will lift you and bring you to a place where you too can say I can defeat any giant in my life as long as my faith is in God.

Our prayer when faced with a giant is: “Almighty God today I face a giant that I know is not bigger and greater than you. I believe by faith in your powerful word and truth that I can defeat this giant today. By the authority and blood of Jesus Christ who is my Savior and my rock and my fortress. I believe that He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world. That no weapon formed against me shall prosper, because nothing is impossible with God. From this day forward I will be free from this giant – I thank you for your faithfulness and protection in Jesus name I pray – Amen.

Howdy Wayne, nice to see you. Thanks for reading, and you are so right, if we can believe we can do it and envision the victory that is half the battle. God did not give us a spirit of fear but of love, some of us have a tough time understanding that. Your comments are always welcome here. Blessings!

A good story and a challenge to us all. We must face our worst fears at some point in life. To do that, we must have faith and we must believe in ourselves and our ability to carry out the task. The ability to envision one's self accomplishing the difficult is a first step toward success for it lights the path. Thanks for sharing a good write. WB

@Quill - Thank you for stopping in and reading. Yes I feel at times that the Heavenly Father is who stirs my spirit to bring some of these biblical stories to others. It is comforting knowing he is with us no matter what we face in life. Blessings & Hugs to you!

Hi Whidbeywriter... as always a profound writing with so much information and a reminder the evil one is always close at hand.

Least we forget the Father is even closer and we have authority over what is not of Him. Giants come in many forms, it is a wonderful gift called discernment the Father has given to each of His children which can warn us.

Thank you for taking the time to write this, what a gift you have been given Sister, write away and know the Father is your guide.

      Blessings and Hugs

You are very kind Saddlerider1, I believe as this hub gets around it will hopefully get some comments. It's funny because after my divorce is when I completely turned to God. He works in our lives in ways we will never truly understand sometimes. I am very glad you came back to Him, dear brother. Blessings!

I am shocked that I read no comments yet on this wonderful hub. I have faced many Giants and hurdles in my life and through the grace of God I managed to survive the trials and tribulations.

I don't know why, I can give no reason for my being saved, I followed Christianity I became a believer, I stopped being a believer after my ugly divorce and yelled and screamed at God. Why Lord, Why Me...I can't tell you how many times I walked and talked with God.

I am at present a back slidden christian, however I do speak to God regularly and like Robert Duval in The Apostle..I have a one on one with God often. I don't require a church to attend to fellowship in any longer, however I totally respect it.

It takes a Giant of a man/woman to keep their faith when they are driven and faced with back against the wall through so many odds to hang on to their beliefs. I was saved and I am a walking testimonial to survival. Peace and hugs. Great are a very good writer.
