What Has Happened to Christian America?

Updated on January 29, 2011

What Has Happened to Christian America?
(I Kings 9:4-7)

In I Kings 9:4-7 we read of God's promises to Israel, both positive and negative--positive if they follow God; negative if they fail to follow Him. The comparisons between Israel and America are remarkable. In 2009, Barack Obama, referring to America made this statement, "We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation...." That statement seemed to anger many American Christians. I do not know why because the truth is America is not a Christian nation anymore. We have left our first love.

That is why it is so important that America get back to her God. That is why we are calling for The Great American Fast. Perhaps God would be gracious to our country and make Himself known once again. Oh, if God would shed His mercy on us again. Oh, if God would pour floods upon the dry ground--again.

The fault for America being in the shape she is in can be placed squarely on the Christian's shoulders. America is in the shape she is in because we have failed to seek our God. We have failed to stand for the right. We have dishonored God. We have walked away from Him. As Daniel says, "We have sinned."

If anything should anger the Christian it ought to be how we have left God out of our lives. We have taken Him out of our public schools and wonder why violence has escalated. We have taken Him out of our court houses and we wonder, where is the justice? We have shown our arrogance toward a loving, merciful God, and He has left us to our own devises and we wonder why lives are in such ruin.

One day of fasting for our country probably will not make much of a difference. We must begin now to pray and fast.We must begin now to seek our God's face perchance He may be found. You can make a positive difference for your Lord. So seek Him with all your heart.

Seek Him so that our land will be healed? Maybe. Seek Him so that the lost may come to Christ? Maybe. But definitely seek Him so that He might be glorified. Give Him His rightful place in your life. Make a difference where you are right now. Let God be lifted up and magnified in your life. If we pull together, the nation WILL notice. God has promised.

      Lifegate:

Indeed if I wish to effect this nation on a national level I must start with the me on a personal level.

I have written 2 hubs in deatail that address the crisis that you have eloquently and passionately spoke of here.

"A Christian Nation" and, "One Nation under God"

I would be honored if you read them and gave me your opinion. Like you I am calling the American Christian to account.

      God Bless

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

That verse is talking to believers. We must humble ourselves before God and seek His face and turn from pour wickedness.

      Love this hub.

Another scripture came to mind after I posted my first comment.

Isa 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

The politicization of the church in the 80's and 90's reduced the church to a powerfuless joke on the American stage, and she will remain so until she returns to her first love.

      SirDent,

Isaiah 6:5 i such a powerful verse. We need to see the Lord high and lifted up before we will see ourselves as undone. Thanks for the visit.

      Enlydia Listener,

I agree with him as well.

      Joni,

Thanks for stopping by. What's the title of your hub?

      Michael,

I wish more people would just say Amen to the Lord and follow Him with a humble heart, pray, turn from their wicked ways and seek His face only!

      CO,

Glad you could stop by and for your kind words.

      Dave,

Oh so very true! It's time to return!

      Hello Young Man,

      Great Topic/Well Said Sir!

It All Comes down, to a simply Fact!

God Has Blessed Man, with the "Power to Choose" Their Own Thoughts, and Actions; (Free Morale Agent). Lets Pray that all will once again "Choose" Him, and His Ways First(matt6v33) v. Their Own Selfish Foolish Ways" For its been said, that the Good News, to your Hub, is that "Heaven Wont Be Too Crowded" For Those Who Have chosen to obey Him, in the Life, that He has given. For I was reminded of 2Thess v6-9 while reading your work. For Those That Choose Not To Obey The Gospel of Christ; "Hath NOT God! Pray this Lord's Day, that All Will choose to Be Wise and Follow Him, and His Ways First, in so that All Things shall be Granted Unto Them!

      Once again Sir, Good Job!

Truly insightful hub. Thank you for sharing your aspirations. If only America will make God once again the center of their lives, truly this nation will become great again. Godliness is indeed the key for the success of a certain nation. Godlessness will cause a nation's downfall. Remain blessed always and best regards.

      Linda,

Thanks. It's great to have you on board.

      Cristina,

Unfortunately, we in America ave turned Godless. I do believe unless we get turned around, it will be our downfall.

Being able to say this is a good start of genuine revival. I hope we here in the Philippines would have the same honesty to admit the same truth.

It does break my heart, Lifegate, to have to agree with you. What Obama said, that we are no longer a Christian Nation, is correct. It is shameful that we have left, as you said, "our first love."

We have sinned; we have dishonored God. We have become shameless. And worse, this all begins with so-called practicing Christian who have learned to live with compromises.

      V,

I'm sorry to have to say it's true. I wish it wasn't, but it is what it is. I do believe things can still be turned around if we want them to. If you get a chance go to www.thegreatamericanfast.org and take your stand. I'd appreciate it.

I am a little late ringing in here, but better than never. I would have to agree, we as a nation in whole have lost our way, seeing that our country was founded on biblical principles and adherence to the 10 Laws God gave to Moses many years ago. If we could all get back to being God conscious, reading and studying Jesus Christ's most awesome teachings, we could fight this adversity off,but it seems that the strength of the adversary is every bit as powerful as the bible says. If we could somehow get the lukewarm infused with some Godly fire, empowerment would be ours and our strength as Christlike praying warriors would enable us to effect much needed change. It is about priorities isn't it? God first, family and country!

I will never cease to pray in Jesus name for all things. Thank you for sharing, lifegate! I see your point here. Seek ye first the Kingdom of heaven and God, for that is where our Mighty True Father is operating from and He is truly mighty... Artin

Yes it really is about priorities, but I like what you say here, "If we could all get back to being God conscious...."

Truly it's a matter of the Christian being God conscious. It is the God conscious Christian that will make the difference. Yep, better late than never. Thanks for the visit.
