What Will Make You Richer Today?

Updated on June 14, 2017

Achieving a better (and more abundant) score of riches gained....

Today at the end of the day give yourself a score for how you do today.

What would you give to be richer today?

It doesn't take a big effort and the results will amaze you.

Assets, ready cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, customer lists and such aside, let's talk about real riches.

Do people enjoy and seek after your company? Do those you love love you? Do children smile at you and want you to interact with them? Do you see the uncommon in the common things of life? Do you forgive more easily than you used to forgive? Do you eat for healthy nourishment as well as for pleasure? Do you see obstacles as stepping stones? Do you do your best even when it calls for sacrifice? Is your focus on people not things? Do you see a way you can make the world a little better today? Do you give kindnesses as much as you appreciate their being given to you? Are you relevant in the lives of others? Could your funeral be well attended by persons sad to know you are gone?

Certainly these aren't all the tests of your true worth, but they are self-tests for when you look in the mirror tonight before sleeping and ponder today's real riches you have gained. Give yourself a score then. If you have fallen short of a gain you might have made, resolve to do better tomorrow.

The true riches of the world can be yours, and they are riches no one can take away.

You have given the reader food for thought. Richness is not monetary. All one need do is look at how many monetarily wealthy people who are unhappy. These people are divorced, alone, miserable or commit suicide. True riches in life come from a hug by a senior citizen, a smile in the grocery store, letting someone in a door before you, a child giggling at your lame magic, but best of all...having family and friends say they love you.

Voted up and useful. Things to ponder over. My husband's method is to stand in front of the mirror, smile and say - every day I'm getting better and better

handymanbill: Certainly we all do well to think seriously about what is most important to us in this life. You are right on track. Thanks for the "thoughtful" and "interesting" comments, and for saying that I gave you "something to think about."
