What Are Lucid Dreams?
So, what exactly is a lucid dream?
If we refer to the Oxford Dictionary to see what "lucid" means, we see that it is an adjective that means,
- "expressed clearly; easy to understand
- Showing the ability to think clearly; especially in the intervals between periods of confusion or insanity.
The reason we will refer to the Oxford Dictionary is because it gives more examples than most dictionaries. In the case of the word lucid, the dictionary also gives an example as it relates to psychology:
Psychology (Of a dream) experienced with the dreamer feeling awake, aware of dreaming, and able to control events consciously.
This definition makes perfect sense when considering lucid dreams
- dreamer feels awake
- dreamer is aware that they are dreaming
- dreamer is in control
*it should be noted that lucid dreaming is merely being aware that you are dreaming and does not necessarily require the dreamer to be in control of their environment or their own actions

Are Lucid Dreams Natural or Can I Work To Achieve a Lucid Dream?
For some people, lucid dreaming occurs naturally at an early age. For others, it comes to them later in life. Some people have lucid dreams as a result of food or from taking drugs or supplements.

In order to lucid dream, you must be aware you are dreaming, so some of these methods are exercises to practice recognizing that you are dreaming, while other techniques are used to .optimize the sleep cycle so that lucid dreaming is more likely.
If You Would Like To Become A Lucid Dreamer:
Keep in mind that many people might attempt to sell you advice or a service of some sort, others might offer drugs or supplements promising that you will become lucid. However, it is wise to keep in mind that every person and every mind is different, so your experience might not be the same as other people who have tried similar methods.
Trying various methods for yourself is the only way to be sure if you can lucid dream and which methods are best for you. However, if you do attempt to use any substances to achieve a lucid dream, please keep in mind that it is dangerous to try strange substances without researching and understanding what you are putting into your body.
This message is not meant to discourage people from lucid dreaming, but to make them aware that it might take a lot of effort for some; others do not have any dream recall, no matter how hard they try. But for those who do manage to become lucid, they find themselves in a place where the only limitation is their own imagination and the possibilities are endless.
