What does it mean to have real authority? For years I asserted it, I let go, and now I have it.

Understanding Authority

In today’s world of self and self reliance and self esteem this is a refreshing quote from Paul: 3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. (1 Corin 6)

Interesting that Mark uses the same concept for the twelve who were sent: Mark 6:7 And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits;

And so it is that we can get an understanding of what “authority” really is for Spiritual. And in looking at our role within authority we can see God’s authority over us more clearly. Authority over another is to give them the affection, or attention* due them. Authority over the negative is to cast it out.

Presidential bid for authority?

We are given the authority from time to time. When we receive it we must act in Love. When we do that we change attention to affection, and remove hate by simply getting rid of it. Wow what a concept, no judgment, no orders. Here is a fun one, “Does a gardener order the plant to grow and to bloom?” “No. The gardener plants the seed, provides nourishment and light and affection, the flower blooms on its’ own”. And so it is with good fundamental leadership. Perhaps it would be good to measure politicians in such a way. Can they be the good gardener and provide the right environment for the nation to grow? It would seem both Romney and Obama would benefit from making that kind of authority their motto.

And make no doubt, it is not the order spoken to the negative that makes it depart. It is the heart of the host, that refuses a place for the negative. Notice that a good clean spirit dominant within you is accomplished by your steadfastness and Love. Therefore an unclean spirit within you, is accomplished by invitation also. Spirit is our inner self that is connected to the huge God of Love. An unclean spirit is simply anything within you that keeps you from Victory with God.

And so yes, it is good to notice that we have been given the same authority as the twelve.

*Attention given in love is affection.
