What is the Ministers Job according to Scripture

The Ministers Job According to Scripture

REALLY? WHAT is the Minister's Job According to Scripture?

It seems everyone has an idea of what the functions of a minister is but I see very few or any that actually line up with scripture. Since a Christian should not care what anyone's idea is , but only what God says it is, I will endeavor to enlighten those that are interested in What the scriptures say in this regard.
Soo, what really is the job of the Christian minister? The nominal church (most of the church world)says that the only minister of any real value is the pastor. In fact in some circles you might think that that God has died and made the pastor god. But what does the bible( God's word) say about this. Lets take a look at scripture and see what it says about the Christian minister and his responsibilities.

Specific ministries recognized by scripture.

The scripture clearly define the ministries that are to be recognized by the new testament church. These scriptures also tell us God's purpose for these ministries. let's look at Ephesians 4-11 and He gave some , apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelistes, and some pastors and teachers. God gave some men to us, the church. He gave them with specific reasons and purposes. verses 12 and 13 tell us why they were given to us. "for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ, til we all come in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God,unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ."
These scriptures show us that these men were and are given by God to His church for the purpose of changing us from carnal (worldly)people to a Christlike people (the bride of Christ),perfect and spotless as He is.
We must learn to lean on God and submit our whole being to Him. W e must also recognize that God has given men to us that He may use them to help us make the change. Each of these ministries that God has given to us to be used by Him in changing our lives has a specific area of ministry (Expertise). One of these ministries alone cannot provide all the necessary insight and help that we need. If this was possible , then God (remember He is smarter than we are )would not have specifically provided this multiple ministry for us.

Unfortunately the majority of churches professing to be Christian do not believe in these ministries, others do not allow them to function, others limit their ability to function by limiting their influence, and others corrupt their proper function . The few that do allow them to function reap the benefits of God's plan. the proper functioing of these ministries is almost exclusively seen in small independent Spirit filled churches . Although a few large churchs have a show of these ministries I am not aware of any that allow the free flow of these ministries. And there are also a number, especially the charismatics, that teach that a sugar daddy God will presto changeo change you instantly when He is ready and all you have to is wait. Since scripture tells us to " work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" that is not scriptural advice. Gods people are perishing for lack of proper understanding and scriptural misunderstanding in the churches that keeps them from receiving the full counsel of God that He has prepared.
What are these ministries supposed to do, how are they supposed to function?
Since God has provided these men , He must have also given us scripture to tell us what and how they are expected to accomplish that which they were given to do. There are two scriptures that clearly show this,
2 Tim 4:4 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
1 Peter 5:5 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. .
These scriptures certainly make it clear as well as give warning to the ministry as to their attitudes and life style.
When a person is not living in the manner prescribed by scripture they are usually blind to areas of their lives that need to be changed , they cannot hear clearly (if at all) from God as they are not in proper fellowship with him, Sometimes they have heard but need to be reminded that God is still waiting for the change. Many times these are things that cannot be seen by the natural eye. Whatever the circumstances, it should be clear that the times we are most in need, are the timse we do not have fellowship directly with God. So therefore God in His infinate wisdom and mercy gave men to us with a charge to bring the Word of God whether we want to hear it or not. Thank God for His love and mercy. IT IS TIME THAT THE MINISTRY starts DOING the job that God has given them. Ministry does NOT answer to the people, the ministry answers to God as to how they have cared for His people. Ministry is not given to any particular group of people , ministry is given the the entire body of Christ . I understand that it is not pleasant to have to be responsible and to go to those that do not want to change and are messed up or in rebellion to God, but He gives this charge to us through the apostle Paul who has set the example for us to follow. He did all the things that we are charged with in II Timothy 4. Sometimes it broke his heart too, but He DID WHAT GOD CALLED HIM TO DO. We must do the same.
Prov 27:5 Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
We see from Proverbs that it is a greater act of LOVE to rebuke with love than to keep our mouth shut and let one suffer eternal damnation. If we really love God's people we will start living as servants to them , setting the example as we are charged and to fully execute the job God has entrusted to us. When the ministry that God has given to His church starts doing the the work they were sent to do, THEN and only then will we see the bride of Christ coming forth in the purity and Holiness that is necessary for us to see God. Hebrews 12-14

Why is this Necessary ?

Because of God's great love for His people.
2 Tim 4:For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Do you see it? If someone does not tell them the truth they may be lost forever. Because they have forsaken God and started following their own way.
Prov 16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
It says they will do this but I tell you they are doing it NOW.

Warning to the Ministry.

You will answer to God for the way you have done the job you are called to do. So, you must be sure you are called by God and Not by men. You must be baptized in the HOLY Spirit so you can be sure you are hearing the instructions from God. Then you must follow those instruction without changing them no matter who or what is involved. You are not to add to or take away from , just give exactly as God has given to you. Your personal opinions and desire must NEVER be allowed to influence you. And never forget, those of us who profess to teach are judged by a stricter standard.
James 3:1 3 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

Final Caution

If a man of God brings to you any Word from God you must take it to God and have Him confirm whether it is true and then if it is true (as confirmed by the Holy Spirit of God you must act on it. Then you must thank God for sending him.
However if the Holy Spirit confirms ( the Holy Spirit , not your heart, as your heart is deceitful) that it is not correct then you must go and tell him. If his response in any way tries to explain or coerce you then it was probably not from God.
Remember you will answer to God not to man. Ministry is responsible to God for what they teach and say. But, you and only you will answer to God for what you believe. Please do not miss HIM.
