What kind of church do we need?

Updated on February 28, 2013

Acts 2:42 (NKJV)

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

First of all, a church should be loving, understanding, and a place where everyone is blessed by the Word of God. A preacher is there to bring a message that will bring the lost sheep to the Shepherd, uplift their spirits, and teach the the way of the Lord.

Secondly, a church should be a place where everyone come as they are. We don't change ourselves before we are born again. God will transform us into His image the moment we accept Christ as our Savior. The moment we know how much He have done for us, the more we want to be like Christ.

According to the verse I just put up there, there are 4 simple things that we need in a church:

The first one is "continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine". What kind of doctrine? Anything that has to do with Christ's finished WORKS. it's all about JESUS. It's not about me or you. The Bible said , " Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature".(Mark 16:15) Gospel means "good news" and it's always about Jesus!

The second thing the church needs is fellowship. As a church, we are family. We are here to worship, to help one another, and most importantly, to love one another. Fellowship is about uplifting each other in Christ and bring the lost souls to Salvation through the grace of God.

The third thing is breaking of bread. This is a symbol of communion. As a church, we are to be reminded of what Christ have done for us. He suffered and died for us on the Cross. He paid for our sins so that we may boldly come to the Father. It's also can be a symbol of covenant. Back then they didn't have paper contracts, they had "bread" contracts. When Abraham and Lots decided to parts their own ways, they had a covenant over the feast and broke bread and the covenant became a peace treaty between them and their headmen.

The last thing is prayers. I believe in prayers. Even the Bible says that the "temple" or "church" should be a house of prayers. The Bible are full of prayers. There are prayers for every circumstances in everyone's life. God hears our prayers even when we don't think He is. A church that have people who pray and study His Word and embrace Jesus will be a strong church.

One more thing: A church that have unconditional love for each other will be blessed. It's important to share the love of Christ with every brothers and sisters in Christ including those who don't believe in Him. Never give up on those who rejects Him. Always pray for them and encourage them with the Living Word of God. Don't judge them, belittle them and treat them unfairly. Always treat them with love, respect , and hope.
