Where is the Lord when your hurting?

Updated on June 9, 2011

A very present help

The bible says that the Lord is a very present help in the time of trouble. That means no matter where you are in life or what you are going through, he is right there. Many times even though he is there he is not recognized because of being blamed for the problems. I have asked why at times because I did not understand why God would allow some things to happen. But the truth is this, life happens and as long as we have breath there will be problems. The Lord Jesus has also given us a goal to look at while hurting.

He says to be of good cheer for I have over come the world. Because he was tempted in all points like as we yet without sin and has overcome every trial and test, we can have that same victory. David found out that God was a very present help during one of the most challenging times of his life. King Saul had a contract out on his life and sought to kill David. Because of Gods intervention David managed to escape each and every time Saul attempted to kill him. If we look over our life while hurting we will see Gods deliverance in that what could have tragically happened did not.

Things could have been so much worse but they were not. There is nothing like hurting and having someone that you trust turn against you adding to the pain. David and his men came back to their home in the city of Ziklag only to find their houses burned with fire and their families taken. They were in so much pain that they wept until they had no more power to do so. The men that fought with David now blamed him for their misfortune and spake of stoning him but God was a very present help not allowing it to happen. Even though the Lord is with us sometimes we do want someone to talk to or confide in.

David being alone had no one to confide in, but instead of giving in to depression, he encouraged himself in the Lord. Sometimes you may need to pick up the phone instead of waiting and wondering why no one has called. You may need to find a humorous show on television and laugh when nothing is funny. But in it all know that God is a very present help.

He was there all the time

John chapter 20 gives the account of this story. It was early in the morning on resurrection day that Jesus had risen from the dead after being put to death on a cross. Mary was one of the women who went to anoint the Lords body with spices according to their custom. As they arrived, there was no body in the grave, and the women were rightfully upset. John looks at the account from Marys perspective.

Have you ever expected something to happen one way but it turned out completely different? Moments like that motivate a person to find solutions on their own. Even though Marys problem involved Jesus, it still gives a point of reference from which to draw from.

1. In her frustration she searches for Jesus:

To search for solutions on our own leaving Jesus as a last resort is an insult to the Lord. After all he says in 1 Peter 5:7 that we are to cast all of our care on him because he cares for us. He knows what to do, when and how to do it as well. He will not just force himself into our problems without being asked first. He tells us to ask and it shall be given seek and we would find, knock and it will be opened unto us. He also says in Luke 18:1 that men ought always to pray and not faint. In our frustration let us search for solutions by searching and seeking after him.

2. Woman why weepest thou?

Mary began weeping because she thought the Lord Jesus body had been taken. While weeping she stoops down to look into the sepulchre and sees two angels in white sitting. Psalm 30 says that in his favor is life, weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. Marys weeping was about to turn to joy, but only after she had received supernatural revelation. She saw two angels who asked her why was she weeping? it is important to know why one weeps because it is easy to do so without a reason. Have you ever cried and did not know why?It is then time to be still and know that God is God. May I tell you that Jesus was already in the presence of Mary , but she did not know it because he appeared to her as the gardener. Many times the Lord is where we are , but because we are not expecting him, we ignore his presence. Always remember he said that he will never leave or forsake us, so whether we feel his presence or not he is there. He is a very present help in time of trouble.

In hurting times be careful how you speak

The bible says that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Your mouth will speak whats in your heart. A broken and hurting heart can say some things that are later regretted.

Be careful how you think

The bible says that as a man thinketh in his heart so is he. A hurting heart can cause ungodly imaginations. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says and casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

Guard your heart

The bible says to keep your heart with all diligence for out of it flows the issues of life.

Allow the peace of God to keep your heart and mind

Philippians 4:6 tells us to first of all be careful for nothing.

To be anxious can cause one to follow ones emotions "which can be fickle" instead of waiting on the Lord who is a very present help in the problem. To be careful for nothing means not to worry about what has not happened. Many times the tragedies we imagine happening in the future never do, so all of the stress exemplified is for nothing.

But in everything by prayer and supplication

One of the most important things that prayer does is to remind one that God is presently waiting for us to call upon him to get involved with our problems. Luke 18:1 says that men ought always to pray and not faint!

With thanksgiving let your request be made unto God

God being a very present help means that he is helping at the moment we trust and allow him to. Rest assure because of his help all things will work together for good. Because of this it is only appropriate to give him thanks in advance. No one says thank you except having received something first. Giving God thanks also is a faith statement declaring to God you believe that it is done!

And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds by Christ Jesus

Many people who may know a persons problems will be truly amazed at how calm and at peace the person is. After all they should be pulling their hair out, but they are at rest about their problem because God is a very present help in the time of trouble.

The peace of God

Has God ever been a very present help for you?
