Who Can Preach?

Updated on November 3, 2014

A serious discussion came up last evening between several of us. It comes down to this: who can preach? Who can be a pastor? Who can show others what the Word of God says?

It seems that by a friend of mine,in Puerto Rico you have to have a license to be able to preach. At this point, I haven't researched that yet; I will as I write this hub. This rule may be for the United States too; I am not sure yet.

What I do need to say is: if this is true, it is totally against what the Bible, the Word of God teaches us. Lets look at a few scriptures after I give you the definition of preach.

This is from Websters Dictionary: Preach: To proclaim or publish tidings; specifically, to proclaim the gospel; to discourse publicly on a religious subject, or from a text of Scripture; to deliver a sermon.

Now keep in mind that many of Jesus' disciples were just ordinary men. They were fishermen, constructors and so forth. They were not trained theologians and many of them were uneducated.

Matthew 10:7: And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mark 3:14: And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach

Luke 9:60: Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but you go and preach the kingdom of God.

Acts 10:42: And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he who was ordained of God to be the Judge of the living and dead.

1 Corinthians 1:17: For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

Galatians 1:16: To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the Gentiles; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be diligent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

All throughout the Bible, I cannot find where a person needs a degree in theology or religion to preach. It isn't some other man or woman that ordains us to spread the Holy Word, it is the Holy Spirit; it is God Himself!

Look at Jonah who was swallowed by the whale. He wasn't a trained theologian; he was just a man. God told him to go preach at Nineveh and he disobeyed at first. There are many others in the Bible that were sent by God to preach. They didn't wear expensive suits and gold watches; they didn't cut their hair a certain way. They followed what God told them and told others the Truth.

So why is it these days you have to have a degree to preach?

As I look through pages and pages in Google, I am shocked. We, not actually, because I know that the devil has made a mockery of the church, pastors and preachers, and the whole idea that the early Christians had preached.

Yes, for the most part in almost any church you need a degree and you need to be ordained. What I find is a bunch of sites that are willing to ordain you with nothing but a check or money order sent to them. I considered showing the links, but I won't give them that power. I won't give the devil a link to his ploys.

I could go on and on; I just want to say to all the churches out there and their administrations: Don't be concerned about education levels or how the person is on the outside. How are they on the inside? Is the Holy Spirit at work in their lives. I have met many highly educated people that know the Bible inside and out, but really have no clue who or what Jesus is really all about.

Many churches have turned into "profit machines". They have become a big business.

One thing I have learned in all of this is: I am a preacher. I don't have a degree and I didn't get a certificate to hang on a wall, but I am a preacher. I wasn't ordained by some other guy wearing a long, flowing robe. I do study the Word and the Holy Spirit helps me understand it.

I will preach and preach and preach some more. The day some government tells me I cannot preach, I will preach louder!

Religion is a problem; Christianity is not religion. Religion is law, Christianity is Jesus! Religion causes hate, war and chaos; Christianity is all about love, care and patience.

Please church, consider who you have behind that pulpit. Does that person know God or is that person just educated? Is the Holy Spirit working or are they just there for a paycheck?

I hope and pray that mankind will awaken to Jesus. Not the stories or fables as some would say, but the Jesus that is alive and walks with us through each day!
