Who was Jesus or Isa?

Updated on July 22, 2010

Who Jesus really was.

Part Three in the What you don't but should know about Islam series.

"Some People say he was a Prophet, others call him a god, while others say he was a very wise man. But whatever your idea is, one thing remains certain: he was not your ordinary man." Yahiya Emerick

Jesus(pbuh) was born some 2000 years ago in a Roman controlled Palestine. His birth was not in the usual fashion. He was very special. He was to be the son of a young woman named Mariam or Mary. God simply said "be" and he was placed in the womb of Mary. He was the last in a long line of Prophets sent to the Jewish people.

Mary was not your average woman She dedicated her live, just as her mother had, to the service of God. On a day Mary thought no different than any other an Angel came to her, disguised as a human and foretold the coming of her son. Her child was born in the summer, not the winter as the Catholic Church would have you believe. God himself soothed her suffering while in labor with Jesus(pbuh). When Mary returned home from the birth of Jesus (pbuh), she was accused of being impure and having a child out of wedlock. Though the child she carried was in fact the Messiah(pbuh). The child being of a miracle, miraculous things soon began to happen in and around his presence. As an infant Jesus spoke in defence of his mother saying, " I am a servant of God. He has given me scripture and has made me a Prophet. He has blessed me wherever I may be and has made prayer and charity my duty as long as I live." This eased the anger of Mary's accusers.

Jesus(pbuh) was no ordinary child. He excelled in all he did, he was more intelligent than the other children, He respected all of his mother's commands. He spread happiness and joy, where ever he went. When Jesus(pbuh) became an adult he began to travel and spread the word of God, and told of the day of Judgement. His message is called the Gospel.

He told us to over come hate, and spread mercy and forgiveness. He taught us to obey the wish of the Creator, that the Will of the Creator would bring Salvation, not just on earth but the Hereafter as well. God gave Jesus(pbuh) the power to preform miracles to reinforce his message. He gave him the power to heal the sick, give sight to the blind, to walk on water and even raise the dead, among many others. He did all of these things for the Glory of Allah never once claiming credit for himself. He soon gathered a group of faithful followers, the twelve disciples who helped him spread his message. He taught the same message taught before him by, Adam, Noah, Abraham Moses and others. Jesus himself foretold the coming of Muhammad(pbuh), he told us that Muhammad would be the last(pbuh) in a great line of Prophets.

God tests the Prophets more than any ordinary person. We could not stand the trials they go through and still remain faithful. Jesus(pbuh) had many followers but he also had many who would plot against him to stop his message from spreading. These included the priests and leaders of the Jewish people. These leaders power and income was dependant upon sole control and interpretation of religion. When they finally caught him, Jesus(pbuh) was tortured beyond imagination, he was brutally assaulted and mercilessly beaten, and yet he never renounced his faith. Not one time did he forsake the name of God, so the leaders of the Jewish people would have him killed in the Roman manner of Crucifixion. But Jesus escaped, they thought they had successfully killed him, but God answered his prayers and the man who betrayed him was killed in the confusion instead of Jesus(pbuh). And so to further protect Jesus, Allah lifted him into heaven, away from this world so that Jesus(pbuh) could be with him, God.

With Jesus(pbuh) gone his followers tried to continue his message. But before long the message of the Prophet Jesus(pbuh) would be diluted and distorted to spread lies and trick man into false worship. The Romans and Greeks started strange stories of Jesus(pbuh) being the son of God, they started to worship holy men here on earth, and praying to saints. The only records that remain of Jesus(pbuh) are half truths and barley readable documents claimed to be the truth. There is no longer any way for the true accurate message of Jesus(pbuh) to continue to spread. This was not yet the time of incorruptible truth from God.

"I am Indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet; And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live " Qur'an 33:30&31

Every people from the beginning of time have received a Messenger from God, Jesus was the last of a long line sent to the Jewish people. But the Jewish people often strayed from the righteous path of Allah. These many Prophets(pbuta) spoke many languages and had many traditions, but they all had one message: Surrender to the Will of God, the Creator, the Merciful, the Almighty, the Savior, the Giver and find peace. All Praise be to God.

This information was partly gathered from and by Yahiya Emerick.

May peace be upon you all, and may all you do prosper in the name of Allah.

I dedicate this blog to my butterfly.

The article is very detailed msA! Thank you for showing the muslim view point for Jesus PBUH and his mother Virgin Mary. believe it shows the greatness of Islam, moderate, not too much not belittling...The Islamic viewpoint is clear to show this moderation.

Just want to say something, in old Hebrew, the language of ancient Romans, Jesus was named Essos, Arabic Isa, but modernly he was given a J...>Jesus!!

like Younah became Jonah, Youshua [another name for Jesus] is modernly called Joshua.

Modern times language has gone J walking.

      Thank you once again!

Muslims believe in Jesus as much as in other prophets but he was a prophet and not a God. Nice hub and thanks for writing on this topic:)

Thank you Gulnazahmad for your comment, and yes you are exactly right, unfortunately some have twisted the bible, and claim that he is, that Jesus him self never said that he was. Also the books of the bible that Jesus said he wasnt a god were removed and claimed to be fake even though they come from the exactly right time period and are written by the same author as many of the other scrolls that they use in the bible today.

Thanks for the comment Micky, yeah I miss Genius, I dont know what happened to them, we emailed for a while, but sadly they are gone. Keep seeking knowledge and spreading the truth and maybe it will find someone willing to see it.

Some verses from the bible below to prove a point I made in this hub. Though i haven't yet had anyone argue it with me.

1 Cor.15:21 For by a man came death, and by a man the resurrection of the dead. 22 And as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive.

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor as the son of man, that he should be changed. Hath he said then, and will he not do? hath he spoken, and will he not fulfill?

John 4:24 God is a spirit; and they that adore him, must adore him in spirit and in truth.(Jesus speaking)

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus:

John 17:3 And eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. This verse is in Red, or Jesus said it.

1st John 5:7. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

      8. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

Let me clarify a point, after reading the Gospel of Judas, I now believe this part to be an untrue statement that was mistakenly taught by some Islamic scholars.

It is now my belief as told by Judas and Eisa that Judas played a part asked of him by God to fulfill prophesy. It would seem that from the Gospel of Judas that the Crucifixion did indeed take place as stated in the bible. Well mostly as stated in the bible with a few exceptions, first Judas was not a traitor, secondly, Eisa confided in Judas more than any other deciple, and revealed some interesting facts to him the night prior to his arrest when Judas and Jesus spoke of the unspeakable act to come, what where those revelations, well that will be in my stricken from the bible hub soon to come inshaa Allah. If you want to know in the mean time, you can find a copy of the gospel all over the inter web enjoy.

If Jesus was God, why did he make statements like those in the last post and this one below.

Around the ninth hour, Jesus shouted in a loud voice, saying "Eli Eli lama sabachthani?" which is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

      Mark 15:34

If he is God, how did God forsake him? It makes absolutely no rational sense.
