Why Are People Falling for the Church Building Scam

Updated on August 31, 2015

They'll never fit

There were some days when I was walking around finding some empty church buildings to photograph and I was thinking about how such a thing has come to pass. You would have thought that people would have worked out that there is something wrong by now, but it is almost as if there is a mysterious force that wants these buildings to stay where they are, because it helps to make people forget about what the true church is supposed to be like. We can read of what the true church was like in Acts 2:40-47 which says "And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptised: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." and we see here that they were in the temple every day and went from house to house, while in the modern church the leaders do not bother to arrange things so that they could happen this way, because they do not want to fight the things that the Devil has set up in this world. Note also that three thousand people were added unto them in that one day, because God had prepared them for such a large number of people by making sure that "all that believed were together" in one organisation, rather than having many small groups like the current church system. There is nowhere in the Bible where God wanted things to be fragmented like they are now, it has come about because it is the leaders themselves who want things this way, so that they can each be seen as a great leader by the people who follow them. They also seem to like the way that the Roman Catholic church had set up its system because this made it easier for them to collect that all important money from people. If the people met only in many small groups then it would be difficult to have someone travelling about to collect the tax/tithe money, so it was easier to convince them to try to pack into one building, so that they could pass the sack around. If the building filled up then they would then have multiple services per day and hope that the local robbers do not work out what is going on.

Scam of the deluded

You might wonder why God has allowed things to fall apart like this, well we can get a clue from Isaiah 66:1-5 which says "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations. I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not. Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed." and we see here that we are to blame as usual, because we have not done anything to stop these church leaders who have chosen their own ways and caused the unnecessary fragmentation. We have also not done anything about some of the abominable things which are being said and done in these churches, I am of course talking about things which are abominable to God, rather than what mankind would classify as an abomination. I also know that someone "clever" might try to say that God was only talking to Israel, but they would have forgotten that God does not change, so why should the things that annoy Him change? Another reason why God could have allowed the fragmentation would be as a way to protect His elect, by giving them enough understanding to realise that this is not a system that He could have set up. They would then use this understanding to stay away from any of the churches that are a part of the fragmentation and will only be activated when God calls them for His un-fragmented and true church.

Scam formula

Having visited a few different churches, I have seen basically the same thing happening in each of them and it seems as if this will not be changing any-time soon. Basically the people come in and will follow any ritual that has been devised by that church's leader, then some of them will give their money, as if this is one of the main things that God wants, then they will stay to bask in what they think is the glory of the final prayer and then leave. Having spoken to some church people, it seems as if some of them really believe that the church that God wants is a place where people come in, follow a set worship ritual, pay their money, listen to a preacher and then get prayed for. If you have ever been to a church that does not follow this set formula, then please tell me about it, so that I can give it a visit. I also went to a church in Brixton where the people were sitting down near the end of the service, then the announcer said that they were about to take up a collection and you should see how some people immediately got up and left, almost as if they thought that they could get away with basking in the glory of the service and then escape at the end to avoid paying for the privilege.

The scam will eventually end

You might think that this church building scam of the modern Christians is so solid that there is nothing that can be done against it, but you have to realise that God will also be on your side if you want to do something about it because He has never asked anyone to set things up this way. We can read of how things really are in Acts 17:22-28 which says "Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." and we see here that God does not dwell in temples made with hands, which shows that God is not in any of these dark archaic structures that people think are churches. We can also see that we don't have to travel to an old or new building to seek God, which is good because it means that God can be with us even when we visit a neighbours house, but the modern church tries to insist that you have to try to drag them into an assigned building of their choosing.
If you do go to a church building, thinking that God is there, then I am sorry to disappoint you, but He should have been travelling with you all along, which is of course much better because He can be with you even if the church decides to meet in a field. While writing this article I also came across some more information in the Bible that makes it obvious that this church building scam is going to be exposed at some time in the future, so people had better prepare themselves for that day, so that they do not end up on the losing side in the upcoming battle.

The current system of trying to force people into static buildings would never have worked on the day of Pentecost, but Peter and the Apostles already had a system in place to handle a large number of people, which shows how much cleverer they were than we are.

I do think it is sinful how big and magnificent some of the church buildings are. You need to see some of them in America. I say some, because there are still churches in small humble buildings and Christians are instructed to gather together. Most houses aren't large enough to do this. A pastor would need to go to a lot of houses (more than he could fit in a week) to preach to each one.

I think the building of huge churches that are way too elegant is the problem. The leadership of these churches must be worldly and showing off. The money could be used better for the poor or for missionaries.
