Why Aries and Scorpio Attract to Each Other

Updated on February 7, 2017

Aries + Scorpio

A combination full of mystery, passion, and insanity. You have two warriors from the cerebral side, even though neither are wind signs. Aries is known for the horns coming out of the head, it is a mental power house, the age of the ram, the symbol of the brain. Scorpio is known for inciting great pain to others' psyche when it ends a relationship. Scorpio makes people feel like they are soul mates, without the other person ever knowing how this mystery of seduction happened. Scorpio could be a real dummy in life, but their dream psyche could visit you in your sleep telling you all kinds of truths. These are two very hardcore souls. Aries is going to prove itself by how hard it can chase after adventure and life, while Scorpio will show you that it can love so deeply, so passionately, even with hate, that it can master you. These two are a lot of fun to watch, maybe a little bit of a headache, but they'll definitely make for a crazy love affair.

Crash Course on the Zodiac

Both Aries and Scorpio are influenced by Mars. I don't like to call Scorpio a feminine or yin sign for this reason. The yin and yang concept is traditionally seen as wind and fire are yang, and earth and water are yin. This creates a binary, because the zodiac does build on multiplication -- we have quadruplicity with seasonal nature and triplicity with the elements.

  • Cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn.
  • Fixed signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius
  • Mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces

  • Fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
  • Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
  • Wind signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
  • Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Traditional Binary

  • Yang: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius
  • Yin: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces

Opposing Seasons

The are some binary equations that I don't agree with and find more complicated. Mars is an incredibly masculine planet. Venus is incredibly feminine. To have Mars in your chart automatically denotes masculinity. I think Scorpio is so complex in its range that the binary gender application doesn't click -- I can see the feminine in Pisces or in Cancer, I can see the masculine in Leo... but Scorpio is quite masculine. And Aquarius is quite feminine to me even though it's technically a yang. Scorpio traditionally belongs with Mars. This gives it a masculine edge. Aquarius is the last yang of the zodiac and the temperaments soften as you get to the 12th house, so Aquarius may have this feminine edge to it for that reason. I think the gender / binary system in it is more complicated than what is given.

Scorpio is an incredibly complex sign, and I love to write about Scorpios because there is so much to unpack in them. They are the resurrection sign of the zodiac. The reason their emotions are so complicated is because it's reaching to the very depths of hell with emotion and also the very tip of heaven with emotion. This is why they have 3 symbols to it where everyone else has one. The Scorpio is the snake, the scorpion, and the Phoenix. And throughout life it is cycling through those three until it reaches full enlightenment and can stay as the Phoenix. Scorpio is symbolized by the season of fall. It literally sees the magic in the opposite of spring life. It knows that life is coming back soon, but it wants to play in the alchemy of fall. This is where things are automatically going to get weird in an Aries and Scorpio relationship.

Aries are incredibly prideful as the first child of the zodiac. They believe in spring with all their hearts in making life go from budding flower into full bloom. Scorpio wants to take those flowers and make them their own, and literally change their colors, and help them to die so that life can be enlightened and get to its final stage. Most of the zodiac really doesn't understand Scorpio, and the complexity it is dealing with in its lifetime. The Scorpio is full of paradoxes. Aries might be able to tap into some of these paradoxes, but they are going to be confused ultimately. Aries comes from a place of seeing everything be cleared away and made empty due to Pisces' energy sacrificing itself out of unconditional love. Aries never forgets that act. Its entire life is focused around that because Aries is the first born child of that energy. This understanding of Pisces' sacrifice is what Aries will use to try to understand its Scorpio. Aries will use the closest available energy it has from a Pisces to relate to a Scorpio. Meanwhile, Scorpio will use the Sagittarius energy to relate to Aries. Scorpio is aware that Sagittarius is not like Aries, because Sagittarius is a lot more chill and is more of a wild horse in unpredictability and commitment.

Relationship Enlightenment

These two are going to play a lot of mind games against each other. This is both to seek more control of the relationship and also open doors to better understanding each other. They will get on each others' nerves and try to trigger the other person to see what really is the reality there. They both already do this in relationships. Scorpio wants to know what are your trigger buttons, how can it make you angry, how can it make you sad, how can it make you fall in love with them. That's their ultimate question, and they eventually have to learn that you can't force anyone to love you. Scorpio reaches enlightenment when it realizes this. Scorpios' real intent is the reverse pain. It can't reverse pain and get into love unless it knows and identifies why you are in pain. Scorpio doesn't assume that people are without pain.

If Scorpio doesn't come to enlightenment it gets stuck in its snake or scorpion modes, which are both not going to satisfy the relationship needs that Scorpio has. Scorpio will delude itself into thinking it is only a sexual creature when its end goal is a relationship. Don't take advantage of a Scorpio. They'll make sure to come back to haunt you -- whether in your waking life or dreams. Scorpio is eventually going to learn that it really wants a very powerful, loyal relationship, but before it reaches that Phoenix state it can do some pretty insane and sordid stuff. Think of it this way, scorpions will make love for hours on end and then... one of them will eat the other. Scorpio wants to overcome this insane idea that it has to devour its lover, but it is a hard lesson to learn. Aries won't put up with someone trying to devour it because Aries remembers already escaping the womb to become its independent self. You can see how these two energies are not going to put up with a lot of crap.

But ultimately this is why Aries is good for Scorpio. Scorpio needs a partner that is not just going to let it devour it. This is how Scorpio can get enlightened on itself. Because Scorpio needs to know that relationships are real and the world isn't just about sex, but Scorpio will get lost and think that's what it only needs. Aries, even though incredibly passionate, does not like being owned or possessed. Some signs do like some amount of control and merging -- like Pisces. That doesn't mean Scorpio can't have a enlightened relationship with Pisces, it means Pisces will have to work harder for its independence and to tell Scorpio it must develop its self independently. Scorpio will have to encourage Pisces of that to make the relationship grow.

The Leader and the Magician

Aries is a natural leader. They want to go out into the world and have as many adventures as possible. Scorpio really wants to highly connect with someone and have them to themselves. Aries could potentially not understand having that much attention on themselves, and Scorpio might not understand why Aries constantly has a need to go out and spread their legs, their messages, their thoughts. Aries will need to understand that Scorpio is a stubborn personality, and can go cold and secretive. Aries will need to really push themselves to give Scorpio affection because Scorpio craves affection, attention, admiration, all of it. Scorpio should see Aries' desire to explore the world as an opportunity to learn more about Aries and the world. Scorpio should not let itself shut down if Aries is not constantly by their side. It will come with some amount of communication and compromise because you two do have different goals that could conflict with each other. Aries is stubborn about being a leader and taking charge, but they are a cardinal sign so they carry some amount of indecision and openness at times. It is better for you two to focus on positive emotions and thoughts. It would be really easy to breakdown into a fight, which might actually interest the both of you, especially Aries.

These fights could be too much to handle and be toxic. You can overcome this. Aries, you need to slow down and think before you speak. Scorpio, you need to hold back judgment and not analyze your partner so much. Sometimes Scorpio over-analyzes the situation and highlights parts that are arbitrary. Scorpio looks directly at what is the real problem that needs a solution, but uses a defense mechanism to highlight smaller problem spots. These are more like broken fingernails or split ends. Scorpio tests the water with these tricks before breaching a real problem area.

Relationship management tricks:

  1. Have a mediator to help the two of you focus on emotionally intelligent language.
  2. Scorpio, don't freeze out your mate and not talk to them and explain where you are. Be vulnerable and explain what you are feeling. By being awkward, you can be authentic.
  3. Aries, think before you speak. Scorpio is very reflective. Your partner is absorbing what you say.
  4. Emotions go through 3 day cycles, so sometimes give problems a few days to understand and process, then meet later to talk about it and what you discovered... whether solved or not.
  5. Compliment each other where there are strengths. Support each other more than fight.
  6. Be open and let the other person lead with what they want sometimes. Switch it up so you can understand the other person better.

Passionate Warriors

Aries may not understand why Scorpio can be so deep and brooding. Aries likes to run swiftly and lightly across the planet, like leaving behind a trail of flowers in its wake. Scorpio might think Aries is shallow or needs to grow up, but Scorpio is just not seeing Aries correctly. Aries has a deep desire to spread horizontally, Scorpio vertically. Aries is used to being in control when it comes to relationships, but Scorpio is powerful and can -- for once -- out pace the Aries. A lot of the issues are going to circulate around jealously and possessiveness.
