Why Two Sexes are Best

Updated on February 4, 2017

Introduction

We all know that the two sexes are needed for the propagation of our human species. Whether you believe in the creation theory or the evolution theory, you can 't deny that we have a perfect model for success. The prove of the pudding is our society's progress. We are the dominant species on planet earth.

- Feb. 2017

Background

In Genesis, God created Man and Women and gave them dominion over the earth. If you believe in evolution, Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest, you have to conclude that the current two sexes of human biology is ideal.

Why two sexes? It is a fair question to ask. Why not 3 or 1? There are some species that can self fertilize called autogamy. As far as I know, there are no species that require 3 sexes or parents to produce one offspring.

The advantages of two. Let's take a side trip and explore why two of everything. For example we have two arms and two legs. They are mirror images of each other. They may seem identical in everyway but they work in tandem. Try walking on one leg, not very easy.

The same goes with human vision. We have two eyes. Not only each eye can see independently, they work together to give us depth of vision. They allow up to judge distance.

We also have two ears that allow us to hear in stereo.

When it comes to other organs, we have two lungs, two kidneys where even though we can survive on one, the other is almost like a spare.

In each case, the sum of the parts are greater than the total. Our body is designed to produce the optimum results with minimum resources. You can either attribute that to an intelligent designer or to the benefit of natural selection and evolution.

The Need for Two Sexes

When it comes to human biology, I believe the same principles are in play. We have two sexes because they are designed to complement each other to produce the greatest outcome. In our early history, when we were hunters and gatherers, our species require a male who is strong to be able to hunt for foods. The female is the soft nurturer to help with caring of the young. It was a good fit. As we progress, we have the modern industrial age where labor is less intensive but rely more on brains. It is true that both male and female can take on the same tasks for the most part. It depends on having the proper training and education. However, there are a few areas where the task at hand require some physical body strength. Here is where the two sexes have some differences. For example, a fireman has to be able to carry a heavy load of equipment and gear and be able to climb stairs and perhaps help a victim get out of a burning building. The male physique has a clear advantage in general. That is not to say, any given women, can develop the physique to accomplish the same tasks. Just that it would be harder and not the norm.

Summary

The two sexes are ideal. God created man and women and two shall become one. God created two sexes to enable mankind to enjoy the blessings of relationship. A man and a woman are to be bonded together in a community that is built upon trust, intimacy, and mutual love. A similar unity exists within the Trinity.

Thank you for allowing my opinion which includes the thought, according to you if God were to create another human race with only one sex it would have to be best. Is your argument that God is incapable of creating a human race of one sex because he chose two? As you say "In logic" Then God isn't who the Bible says he is when he says "For all things are possible with God." There are actually 15 verses that say anything is possible with God.

DTMB, thanks for checking in. You are perfectly entitled to your opinion. Enjoy the weekend.

Obviously you are the one not folowing my argument. Your argument is baseless because to prove something is best you must have something to compare it to - you don't, case closed.

DTMB, I guess you are not following my argument. Regardless whether you are a believer of a higher power or a believer of evolution, my whole point of this hub is that the two sexes are ideal. Either God created Man and Women or by way of evolution, the two sexes "scenario" was chosen to be the most viable.

In logic, if the proposition of evolution is the "survival of the fittest", therefore, we as the soul dominant species...by definition is "best." Get it?

How did I make your your point? By saying there are only two sexes so 2 sexes have to be best?

We don't know whether it would be best to have just one sex or more than two sexes because we don't know how just one or three or four sexes would work. I listed some of the possible advantages to having one sex, but again unless we can observe a population like that there is no way of knowing if it would be better than having two sexes. If you believe in evolution it works well for single celled organisms which one could say are evolutionarily superior given that they have been around far far longer than any "two sex" species. Your speculation that two sex advantages make it better over all doesn't scientifically pass mustard.

It really would depend on the observer's point of view. What you see as monotonous may not be if it is all there is. Variety is as bad as it is good and a human species never knowing variety could think of it as more of a detriment than a plus especially if in a one sex society all the subjects would be genetically perfect, at the prime of their genetic expression.

Food for thought Jack, hope you are open to criticism. Believing a hypothetical like two sexes are best (hypothertical because you have nothing to compare it to) opens the discussion to all types of discussion of possibilities.

You have just made my case. The two sexes is what allows for diversity. If everyone is an exact copy of itself, it would be very monotonous. Also, genetic pool will be very thin. The reason we have such variety in intelligence and personality and athletic skills is because of the 23 genes contributed from each parent. The combination and permutations is what makes us unique. If science, in the future, creates a 3rd sex and I believe they may try, it will be a failure.

      Well said Jack.

But 2 sexes have to be best. I mean how many sexes are there? Answer, just two.

Have you ever heard of anything else? Is there a place on earth were there are 3 or 4 sexes?

How do you know 3 or 4 sexes wouldn't be better than just two? Don't know how that would work because there are only 2 sexes but I guess if God made a third and/or a fourth sex, since God made it that would be best...right?

Then again, one sex could be better than two. This would require however that whatever the one sex is it could reproduce itself as in asexual reproduction. The offspring will be exact genetic copies of the parent however there would be no need for gay marriage or any kind of marriage (unless you want to marry yourself which I understand is the rage today, Google it). No divorce, no unwed mothers, no illegitimate babies, no rape, no sexual assaults (NO slick willies).

Hmmmm maybe 2 sexes isn't the best.
