Why Unbelievers Cannot Understand the Truth
Why Unbelievers Cannot Understand
If it were possible I would want all unbelievers to be saved by the grace of God. However, there are those people that no matter what will not accept the truth. They will argue with you, call our Holy Savior Jesus names, and try to pull us down to their level. Do you ever wonder why?
I don't have the exact answer to this question, but I have encountered this myself. Some people seem to want to fight the truth until the bitter end. Sometimes, when they want to argue with you, they are actually seeking the truth. Some people are just bitter.
I looked to the word of God for understanding. I came across several verses but it did not give me any comfort.
Isaiah 44:18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
When I read this particular verse what it spoke to me was that this is God's will. He closed their eyes and hearts. Unfortunately, some of our loved ones may not be saved but it should not stop us from praying for them and witnessing to them. The best witness we can give them is how we live our lives. Show them the reason for our joy in Christ.
Psalms 81:12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.
Sometimes this is the way for an unbeliever to find God. First we have to give them over to Him, regardless of what it takes. Sometimes, this is painful to witness and they struggle. Be patient and pray.
When unbelievers argue with you about the resurrection, or the death of Jesus, or whatever they may bring up to you, tell them what you believe and leave it at that. Tell them you respect them for sharing their opinion. Finally, in private, pray for that person. Getting angry fuels their fire and only belittles our Saviour.
Never let their words get to you. II Corinthians 5:7 says, "We live by faith, not by sight." Sometimes my answer has been, "I just believe in it because I have felt His presence."
Keep in mind, God is in control.
