Why Unbelievers Cannot Understand the Truth

Updated on January 3, 2012

Why Unbelievers Cannot Understand

If it were possible I would want all unbelievers to be saved by the grace of God. However, there are those people that no matter what will not accept the truth. They will argue with you, call our Holy Savior Jesus names, and try to pull us down to their level. Do you ever wonder why?

I don't have the exact answer to this question, but I have encountered this myself. Some people seem to want to fight the truth until the bitter end. Sometimes, when they want to argue with you, they are actually seeking the truth. Some people are just bitter.

I looked to the word of God for understanding. I came across several verses but it did not give me any comfort.

Isaiah 44:18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

When I read this particular verse what it spoke to me was that this is God's will. He closed their eyes and hearts. Unfortunately, some of our loved ones may not be saved but it should not stop us from praying for them and witnessing to them. The best witness we can give them is how we live our lives. Show them the reason for our joy in Christ.

Psalms 81:12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.

Sometimes this is the way for an unbeliever to find God. First we have to give them over to Him, regardless of what it takes. Sometimes, this is painful to witness and they struggle. Be patient and pray.

When unbelievers argue with you about the resurrection, or the death of Jesus, or whatever they may bring up to you, tell them what you believe and leave it at that. Tell them you respect them for sharing their opinion. Finally, in private, pray for that person. Getting angry fuels their fire and only belittles our Saviour.

Never let their words get to you. II Corinthians 5:7 says, "We live by faith, not by sight." Sometimes my answer has been, "I just believe in it because I have felt His presence."

Keep in mind, God is in control.

Lately i ask myself the opposite of your question Smokes Angel; Why Believers Cannot Understand the Truth? Especially the teachers that act like Pharisees. Is it maybe because i do not have a Philosophical Degree to teach the truth that i am unveiling or simply Bible Scholars cannot handle the truth because of traditions and believes of their churches in this days. Are they going to let money and prestige be their north instead of the truth? We are entitle to that truth in the name of Jesus Christ. Churches and Bible Scholars around the world need to know that there is much to be learned in the 21st Century about the Holy Scriptures and like a good believer said on my Tweeter, "Not being known doesn't stop the truth from being true"

smokes angel the world will hate us as Jesus was hated. We are pilgrims sojourners. We are set apart. We are in the world but not of the world. We were choosen before the foundations of the earth!! We are children of almighty GOD wow huge!! Not because God looked down and decided you or I would have good hearts and accept Him because we are all sinners not one would be saved on their own. We all fall short the Glory of God. Without the Holy Spirit it is impossible to understand Scripture. Thank you for an awesome share of truth and knowledge in Christ. You have shared words of wisdom in dealing with the unbeliever. We are called to share the Gospel truth. We will be hated for it too by the world. Our promise is eternal life so we press forward in Christ. You keep on girl keep shining your light. Sometimes we do not have to say a thing just love. Love never fails. They will know us by our fruits. Lets us pray that at the precise moment in time God will touch the hearts of those that need touching as HE did for us. God Bless your works. May your peace and joy be multiplied many times sister. Love you in Christ. Keep on Phil 4:13

I was taught the Darwin Theory.. but it makes no sense to me now.. why would we shed our hair// when we need it to protect us from the cold.. I think man has always existed and it has to be a powerful being.. such as God.. and the evil we do.. is Man... not God.. I dunno.. nonetheless we exist and that answer is still out there.. somewhere Why? love this Hub had me thinking and rethinking up and awesome

This Hub really is good. You spoke the cold truth..

But as I read the comment, KATESAIDAN words are too hard to be ignored.. It is true that sinners pay, hence like you said, hell is necessary..

But what crime did this innocent ones commit. Jesus made us to understand that the heart of a child is as white as snow and that for Him who wants to dwell in the Creators Home He has to become child..

What then would you say ...

Jesus from the same Bible says Love your Enemy and treat them as you would treat you self..

And Apostle Paul also said, if it was possible live in peace with all men..

Let us re think this things ..

I was once lost but now I'm found. I'm very grateful for God's grace. I'm glad I found my way home.

It is not God who does this. He gave mankind a free will to choose and men choose to do evil. In fact, I think when God sees these atrocities he cries. That is also why Hell is necessary.

You are so right about our loved ones, who do not see the truth of God's Love and Grace. I feel your heart in this hub...for others to come to the knowledge of God. To know Him, not only in their minds...but in their hearts:) Warming Hub! Thank you:)

I don't believe because I can't resolve why a loving and paternal God would allow the most innocent among us to be horribly abused in unspeakable ways. An eight day old child raped to death, a five year old sexually, emotionally and physically abused for six months until she finally died from the abuse, a five month old left strapped in a car seat for eight days while his parents lived their life around him.

The Bible was written by man and regardless of how often the Bible is studied and translated the fact remains that the author was mankind.

What is your opinion on why such hideous atrocities happen to those too young to "deserve" punishment from Him, too young to have sinned, too young to know to look to Him, and their death doesn't affect the ones responsible?
