Why do we need religion? Connectivity with God!

Updated on November 18, 2013

‘Religion is to do right, it is to love, it is to serve, it is to think, it is to be humble’-Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is indeed sad that religion has been the reason of many wars and we see loss of many precious lives in the name of religion. This kills the very reason why religion was created. In what way is a Christian different from a Muslim and what is the difference between Hinduism and Buddhism? All religions are superior and they all teach love, honesty and humanity..

Why then do we have much bitterness in the name of religion?

Do we really need religion?

You really need religion to be organized in life.It does not mean that you cannot lead an organized life if you are not religious .The simple fact is when you have some rules and regulations which you are advised to follow, you will not follow it. But if it is in the form of a religious rule you will follow it.

Religion keeps you connected with god. God is an awesome power that saves you from many problems in your life and when god is linked with religion, you follow the goodness your religion teaches you. Your life without religion will be a helpless world as you have no one to turn to in times of sorrow or distress. God is selfless and he is the one who can help you in your deep anguish.

You see many fights in the name of religion which makes you feel whether religion is a necessary thing. No religion tells you to fight. It is man who feels his particular religion far superior than others and he feels it his right to destroy whom he thinks is inferior to his belief. If you observe, normal human beings co exist in peace with others and they do not talk about their religion with others.

It is the politicians and other vested groups who brainwash youngsters into the conviction that it is religious to kill others of different belief. These groups are always on the lookout for people who have no family love, are uneducated and mentally deprived to mesmerize them to do hideous things.

No religion professes hatred

So it is unfair to think that religion is the cause for all the mishaps in the world. When you read the holy books of any religion, they all have one thing in common and that is love for fellow men. Not one religion professes hatred, bloodshed and violence. It is all man made.

If you talk with normal people they tell you how their religion has helped them overcome so many hardships in life. They feel their religion a hope that will retrieve them from troubles and make them feel secure. It teaches them to be honest and they practice honesty, it teaches them peace as a solution for all troubles in the world and they co exist in peace with everyone.

Religion is very personal

Religion should be a personal thing for everyone, a hopeful crutch to lean on and a lesson which teaches all the good aspects of life. Without my religious belief I will not be able to feel positive and peaceful, but my religion ends at my home and when I venture out of my I am just an ordinary Indian citizen.

'This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.'-Dalai Lama

Your religion is your personal faith and your must be proud of it.But the pride you feel should be within yourself to draw strength and not to make an issue of it and think other religion was inferior to yours.

When religion is personal it works as an anchor in your life, but when it becomes an issue it assumes a destructive proportion.Thank you for your comments.
