Why so much hoopla over December 12, 2012 and the Mayan Calendar?

Updated on October 21, 2012

I remember as a child watching Discovery channel shows that mentioned this end of days. Fear struck my heart knowing that I would be alive to witness this Mayan prophecy. At the tender age of ten you believe everything you see on television and don’t question it. Now that I’m older I’ve learned that you need to question everything before coming to a definite conclusion. I’ve read many things about this Mayan prophecy and I’m proud to say I’m not in fear of this day no more. The true meaning of the Mayan calendar was misinterpreted. When this Mayan calendar ends a new one will begin. Nowhere in that calendar does it mention a catastrophe will happen. Instead a new cycle will start and I will be brewing another cup of coffee on December 13th, 2012. What is the reason for all this end of the world hoopla? In my opinion it has to do with money. Many people are writing books and producing movies based on this dreading day. All this publicity is stirring many to seek buying underground bunkers to last a lifetime and putting fear in people. It’s okay to be prepared for something bad to happen but to base it on something that is not logically true to me is nonsense. Even the bible says in Matthew 24:36 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven”. Every day you should your life as if it were your last. We all will have our day to meet our creator but December 12, 2012 I think I’ll pass you by.

Do you believe December 12, 2012 will be the end?
