Will thou fight against God Pt.2

Updated on March 16, 2011

Run in with Righteousness

We look at our friends who were once supporters of the kingdom but who were without patience and decided to choose the easy way out, choosing to follow the broad road and now that have led you to begin to reason;

  •   Maybe I should play the lottery
  • Maybe I should go to the River Boat
  • Maybe I should get married to that unsaved man who killed his last wife
  • Maybe I should take a drink at the office party and get drunk, after all, I am doing every thing else
And some of us not only think about it but we begin to “follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of (2Pet.2:2).

The word pernicious is an adjective meaning; malicious, harmful and destructive.

Recently, Charlie Sheen, a man who glorifies himself in dope, booze and girls was recently sat down by CBS for his immoral conduct. He was making a public spectacle of himself and his associations, which was CBS.

It seems as if the whole nation came against CBS for their moral stand against immorality.

On the Internet, social networks, like Face book and twitter had an all time high clicks. The people were saying to CBS, bring back that filth, we can’t live without that program that showed half naked women and bed scenes with Charlie. Seemingly, the whole world is taking his side against CBS. We have yet to see the outcome of this mess.

But this is the time when the churches should speak out in support of CBS. But how can you speak out about a matter in which you have been an active participant?

However, we do pray that Charlie Sheen (Estevez) will come to know the Lord Jesus in the pardon of his sins and that the Lord will do a miracle in his life so that by his testimony millions will be saved for the glory of God.

In fact I am making a deposit in Charlie’s life that he will be greatly used of God and that the end has not been seen of Charlie Sheen!

Stephen was doing a good work for the name of the Lord, unlike the Charlie of today’s news, and yet the whole city had become influence by the leadership of the Sanhedrin, to act in violent discord to that which God had ordained.

They were being influenced with what they thought were opportunities to help God but what they considered to be an “opportunity”, was really an opposition to God.

One of the wording of Peter to this opposition to God is caused by covetousness, from the Greek word pleonexia meaning, avarice, that is, (by implication) fraudulency, extortion:—covetous (-ness) practices, greediness.

Saul had received teaching at the feet of Gamaliel (Acts22:3) a doctor of the law (PhD) and a member of the Sanhedrin. However we notice that Gamaliel was not of the persuasion of the high priest (Acts 5:34) but Saul’s soul had been influenced by the High Priest of the Sanhedrin to act in opposition to the will of God.

Sometimes a person may know the right thing to do in a situation that calls for justice and his conscience may discern the truth but the soul rejects the right thing and listens to the voice of influence that bombards the soul.

We see that the voice of influence was further fueled by the stoning of Stephen.

Therefore, the high priest influence ruled over the soul of Saul and would have kept him in bondage had it not been for the Lord. The enemy had planned to sift Saul, like he had planned on doing Peter, as wheat. Satan’s plan was to destroy Paul’s ministry, to becoming hard, callous and without discernment.

 Run in with righteousness.

Notice that at Stephen’s death he did not throw one stone but he kept watch over the clothing of those who did the stoning.

Saul requested a letter from the high priest to go to Damascus

On his way to Damascus he had a run in with the Lord.

The question God is asking the “Saul” in us is, ‘Why are you being such an opposition?

God said to Saul, “Saul, why are you kicking against the pricks?

The question shows us that God had chosen Saul but he needed direction.

He needed a name change.

Moreover, God stopped him before his life was too far gone to the left. Some of us, our belief systems are too far gone to the point where we will only allow God to take us so far before our belief systems kick in and stop God from processing us. It is said that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, and it bears certain merits in our spiritual lives.

So each one of us, should be thankful to God that he got to us in time before we had entertained too much of our own wisdom that would be in need of deliverance. Some times, if we are cumbered about with too many things in our life before we met Christ; we have difficulty proceeding because our souls keep bringing up the same things over and over again. Some times because of our education we think God is unable to free us but God is the God of the impossible. If you could free yourself then you wouldn’t need God. Saul in Conflict with Paul

The voice of influence had,

  1. seduced Saul into arresting the converts
  2. Reasoned with Saul, that he was doing a good thing and he could not come down
  3. That whatever the high priest desired that is what the high priest got
  4. Saul was working for the high priest and not for God
  5. Because of misinformation, the Paul in him was not allowed to manifest his true purpose.

We see Saul in conflict with Paul in Romans 7:15.

Each man that has come into the earth has a sense of God because the presence of God is pervasive, yet specific. The sinner makes the pervasive presence of God in his life to come alive and respondent when he accepts the Lord Jesus into his life.

But there comes a time when the believer allows himself to be influenced by the world which invariable causes opposition to the one who has called him.

Paul says, ‘Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

In Isa.45:9 God says, Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

The question is; are you striving against God?

Does He have the primary place of fellowship in your life?

Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel auto honor, and another unto dishonor?’ Rom. 9:20-21

People who are opposed to the ways of which God governs the earth will fall into much turbulence.

Calamity will surely follow the footsteps of all those who resist God
