Words of Death

Updated on December 12, 2012

Have you ever wondered what you will experience at the moment you leave this world? I mean, what will it really be like? Will you be sorrowful about leaving loved ones behind? Or maybe you will have some regrets over failure? Perhaps you will be looking forward to the rewards that await you.

I have also been told that the last words of individuals are the most important words they will speak in this lifetime. Here is a collection of last words from a number of people as they faced their final moments on earth.

"Our God is the God of whom cometh salvation. God is the Lord by whom we escape death.” - Martin Luther

“Nobody will ever know I existed. Nothing to leave behind me. Nothing to pass on. Nobody to mourn me. That’s the bitterest blow of all.” - Tony Hancock (British comedian)

“The great mystery is Jesus Christ—the gospel. What would the condition of any of us be if we had not the hope of immortality?... Thank God, the gospel of Jesus Christ brought life and immortality to light.” - Daniel Webster. His last words were: “I still live.”

“I commend my soul into the hands of God my Creator, hoping and assuredly believing, through the only merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour, to be made partaker of life everlasting; and my body to the earth, whereof it is made.” - William Shakespeare

“Frances and Courtney, I’ll be at your altar. Please keep going, Courtney, for Frances. For her life will be so much happier without me. I love you. I love you.- Kurt Cobain (taken from his suicide note that was left behind)

“All my possessions for one moment of time.” - Elizabeth the First:

“I sported with the holy name of heaven. Now I am haunted by remorse, and, I fear, forsaken by God.- The Duke of Buckingham, a professed atheist spoken as he lay dying

"Too bad, too bad! It's too late!" - Ludwig van Beethoven

"Farewell, my children; remain always in the fear of the Lord. That temptation and tribulation which is to come is now at hand and happy shall they be who persevere in the good they have begun. I hasten to go to our Lord, to whose grace I recommend you." - St. Francis of Assisi

"I rejoice, yea, my spirit leaps within me for joy, that now the time at last is come when I shall see the glorious God face to face; whom I have by faith longed after, and after whom my soul has panted." - Zuniger

“All of the wisdom of this world is but a tiny raft upon which we must set sail when we leave this earth. If only there was a firmer foundation upon which to sail, perhaps some divine word.” - Socrates

Oh, let me mention one more.on

"It is finished" - Jesus Christ

These were the last words of Christ as He completed His task of delivering salvation to mankind. Although they were His last words before He died. He spoke again after the resurrection. Before ascending back to Heaven the words He left with us is this: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Let's get busy and do just that. There is a lost world out there that needs to hear that it is finished!

      Excellent hub.........

Faith in Christ allows us the confidence to know that paradise awaits us...

as Christ told the criminal who defended Him on the cross next to Him....and as He spoke his last words....... "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise."

Very interesting words left by those you mentioned....

      up and awesome,

You're quite welcome. Sorry to hear your Mother has left us, but after fighting the good fight and walking through the valley of the shadow of death she's in the presence of her Lord. Actions always speak louder than words. Glad you were able to stop by!

Yes, I have, what, I might say in the final moments in Time; particularly so since the passing of my Mother this words were not possible for her, but her life of faith spoke clearly, and probably the words in your video would fit: 'I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith...' . And then,'though I walk through the valley of death, Thou are with me!'

Your hub is a distinct portrayal of truth and discovery for those who will accept that Truth. Thank you for choosing to share this hub!

As always it's a blessing to have you stop by and thank you for your comment. It's wonderful to know that God will meet us at the end of our journey. That's worth the trip.

Great hub. There is no greater than having a perfect confidence and assurance of Heaven at the moment of death. I will rather persevere in faith through my earthly journey and be victorious in my death. Thank you lifegate for sharing this. I find it very interesting. Many blessings to you and to your family. Best regards.

Yes, Jesus certainly did have more to say, but I love the "It is finished". Our salvation was paid in full with those precious words. Thanks for making the trip. It's always good to have you drop by.

I love what St. Frances of Assissi and Zuniger had to say. And of course what Jesus said. Jesus made 7 statements on the cross and each one a treasure and reflection what who He is. Great Hub LG.

      Good Morning Cherry,

Thanks for stopping by. It's always good to hear from you. Yes, we must "go and preach". Actions may be good, but that never saved anybody. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and no other way - so go and preach. I keep you in my prayers.

Voted up and awesome. Go and preach the gospel. Here we see that we do not have to wait for some big calling or commission before we can tell others about Christ. Many today believe that as Christians we should keep our mouths shut and not tell people anything just let them take note by our actions but here Christ is saying Go and Preach...He did not say just show your action but Go and Preach the gospel.

If we truly have a love for people we would indeed tell others about the love of God. Great hub. Some last words was uplifting while others grieved my heart because maybe they missed it because of unbelief.

Thanks for the vote and comment FD. Yes, it's really time we get busy and share the Greatest Story Ever Told with anyone that will listen. I've been teaching a witnessing class in Sunday School the past several weeks and I see how far I fall short of fulfilling the Great Commission. It seems that in our society the great commission often becomes the great omission. Keep on keeping on FD. There's a world out there that needs to hear the message.

Of all the ones you mentioned, I like Jesus' the most. I also like your ending ""Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Let's get busy and do just that." This is precisely what the LORD revealed to me recently when I asked Him what did He want me to do, but not before a few "but, but, but's" out of me. Yes indeed, we have to get busy regardless of opposition. Voted up and beautiful.
