World News or Good News?
Everyday I would turn on the television and go straight to the news while getting the girls ready for school. It would be either bad weather, political news, terrorism attacks, and depressing news. I would feel sad when I hear the death of a celebrity and pray for this person's family and friends. Or I would be angry if I see someone abused a child or got arrested for DUI or robbery, stupid things that will land him or her into jail. Those kind of news doesn't really uplift my spirit at all. These news depresses me so much that I would just switch over to SciFi shows or Disney channels and watch Spongebob or some goofy cartoons with the kids once in awhile. At least I don't have to dwell on the worldly news.
Just recently I have been watching the news on Boston Marathon Bombing and it gives me more angry emotions than sadness. I mean, come on, out of the blue, injuring the innocent people for what? What did they do? They have they done to the persons that caused this tragedy? I sat on my chair and ponder, what would I have done if my kid was the one killed during that tragedy? What would be my reaction? I would be so angry that my faith would be shaken and full of darkness. But then the Grace of God will always remind me that the death is not the final death. it would be that they will either be sleeping or in Heaven. I like the idea of them being in Heaven, don't you? A place where they don't have to suffer or cry out the pain they are experiencing or even feel a hint of sadness or anger. They would be perfect in God's eyes and full of joy and laughter and just be free from this world. Now that is part of the good news. Good News can overcome the worldly news.
So much disasters would hit the world unexpected and people would search for the loved ones while all we can do behind the television was watch the news and feel sympathy of the people and pray for the loved ones to be found alive. And all we could do was to pray after we found out when some of them have died in all kind of disasters. A lot of us would feel helpless and feel like we have no power to assist them in anyway. God bless those who can help them in any way they can. I would think, "If i was a rich man, I could do more for them". Ever thought of that? My wife would always tell me, "You don't need money to be rich, you got faith and a heart that is much more than all the monies in the world!". That made me feel richer than the richest man in the world , King Solomon. He was rich alright but he died before Jesus came into the world who gave us Salvation through the Cross.. Now that we have Jesus, we are richer than King Solomon who was worth much more than every rich person in the world. Now that's Good News.
So what is the Good News? Jesus Christ, our Savior. He's the Best News. He's the King of Kings, the Alpha and the Omega, the Aleph and Tev, The Bread of Life, the Way, the Truth and the Life. He's the one the fed the 5000, brought Lazarus back to life, the One who healed the blind, the deaf, the mute, cast out the demons, healed the woman who have been sick for 12 years just by touching His hem (bottom of his robe) and did not condemn the lady who committed adultery, and best of all, He died for Us! He gave us Salvation and allow us to come to the Father boldly and ask Him for what we need and He'll give to us. But it takes faith. Without Faith, words mean nothing. You can shout, scream or whisper but God rather you have Faith.
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
We need faith. We need to trust in God in everything we do. Whether working, cooking dinner, helping out a friend, etc.. we need faith that God is with us and He'll supply or give us the wisdom that we need for today. Past is done and tomorrow is uncertain but today we can live for Jesus and know that God is with us no matter what. The Good News is that God doesn't disappoint us, the Devil does. God doesn't rip our peace away from us, the Devil does, God doesn't push us away from Him, the Devil loves to take us from Him. So the Good News is that God is for us. I rather read the Good News from the Word of God than to watch the depressing news. Yes the news from the television can be very informative but it can be very manipulating. The Word of God doesn't manipulates us in any form.
This is what I do as much as I could. I pray before I turn on the television. I ask God to give me the peace that overcome the depressing news and wisdom to understand of why these news are happening in the world. I pray when I see tragedies and deaths in the news and for my family's protection as well as the the town I am living in. I also pray for the USA's protection from all evil and worldly tragedies.
