The Bible - Does The Word of God Really Need A Re-write Again?
Conseratives want to re-write the Bible
The website Conservapedia.com is working on a new project; ridding the Bible of it's liberal views. The author wants to rework the scriptures, I thought that at my age I had heard just about everything, but I guess I haven't. The Bible states; that there's nothing new under the sun.
I know it sounds pretty far out there, but it's been a practice since the first publication of the Bible. All throughout history, book learned individuals, who lack wisdom and faith have taken it upon themselves to revise the Word of God to fit their own personal agendas. This has resulted in not only revisions of the Bible, but in the creation of new belief systems.
Hopefully, these scholars are not so conceited as to think that this undertaking will take six month, a year or ten years. The Bible took centuries to write and we are still finding lost scriptures to this day.
My Mother was the first to show me how the Bible has changed since her birth. My Great Grandfather read the Word to her daily, and she never forgot the description of Jesus with "hair of lambs wool, black and comely" . As she grew older she found that the passage had disappeared.
The same thing happened regarding Zipporah, wife of Moses, referred to in earlier editions of the Bible as "the Ethiopian woman" also black and comely. References to Zipporah in my desk Bible, published in 1984, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, made no mention of Zipporah's ethnicity or her country of origin. Therefore, this passage has also been changed.
The folks at Conservapedia claim they want to make the Bible more understandable, but this is not what the book was meant to do. This book is to teach and instruct in the proper behaviour of man to one another. Conservapedia.com argue; "the liberal views and historical passages inserted into the Bible have turned Jesus into little more than a well-meaning social worker with a store of watered-down platitudes". What foolishness; the scriptures are up for interpretation by the each reader. The Bible reflects God's mantra for freedom of choice. God gives you a choice to believe or not to believe. The Conservapedia group want to make your mind up for you and take away your God given freedom of choice.
You receive clarity in the Word of God once you embrace the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. How do I know, it happened to me. In my wild youth I attempted several times to read the Bible, but couldn't make heads or tails out of it. After I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour the scriptures were crystal clear to me. During my years of youthful wantonness I'd given the enemy (satan) gateway into my life and was blind "but now I see" (from the hymn Amazing Grace).
Yes the Bible has been tampered with throughout the ages, but God knew man would not leave well enough alone. In the last page of the New Testament:
Revelation 22:18-19 - 18)"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book; if anyone adds anything to them God will add to him plagues described in this book 19)If anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book".
When the scholars and professors work is done I shudder to think of what the Word of God will look like after I'm long gone. Man in his effort to play God will truly bring the world as we know it to an end as described in Revelations.
My Mother didn't raise a fool, the aforementioned passages could have also been tampered with by man. But you know what I'm not willing to chance the loss of my immortal soul on guessing...how about you?
