The Bible - Does The Word of God Really Need A Re-write Again?

Updated on April 12, 2015

Conseratives want to re-write the Bible

The website is working on a new project; ridding the Bible of it's liberal views. The author wants to rework the scriptures, I thought that at my age I had heard just about everything, but I guess I haven't. The Bible states; that there's nothing new under the sun.

I know it sounds pretty far out there, but it's been a practice since the first publication of the Bible. All throughout history, book learned individuals, who lack wisdom and faith have taken it upon themselves to revise the Word of God to fit their own personal agendas. This has resulted in not only revisions of the Bible, but in the creation of new belief systems.

Hopefully, these scholars are not so conceited as to think that this undertaking will take six month, a year or ten years. The Bible took centuries to write and we are still finding lost scriptures to this day.

My Mother was the first to show me how the Bible has changed since her birth. My Great Grandfather read the Word to her daily, and she never forgot the description of Jesus with "hair of lambs wool, black and comely" . As she grew older she found that the passage had disappeared.

The same thing happened regarding Zipporah, wife of Moses, referred to in earlier editions of the Bible as "the Ethiopian woman" also black and comely. References to Zipporah in my desk Bible, published in 1984, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, made no mention of Zipporah's ethnicity or her country of origin. Therefore, this passage has also been changed.

The folks at Conservapedia claim they want to make the Bible more understandable, but this is not what the book was meant to do. This book is to teach and instruct in the proper behaviour of man to one another. argue; "the liberal views and historical passages inserted into the Bible have turned Jesus into little more than a well-meaning social worker with a store of watered-down platitudes". What foolishness; the scriptures are up for interpretation by the each reader. The Bible reflects God's mantra for freedom of choice. God gives you a choice to believe or not to believe. The Conservapedia group want to make your mind up for you and take away your God given freedom of choice.

You receive clarity in the Word of God once you embrace the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. How do I know, it happened to me. In my wild youth I attempted several times to read the Bible, but couldn't make heads or tails out of it. After I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour the scriptures were crystal clear to me. During my years of youthful wantonness I'd given the enemy (satan) gateway into my life and was blind "but now I see" (from the hymn Amazing Grace).

Yes the Bible has been tampered with throughout the ages, but God knew man would not leave well enough alone. In the last page of the New Testament:

Revelation 22:18-19 - 18)"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book; if anyone adds anything to them God will add to him plagues described in this book 19)If anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book".

When the scholars and professors work is done I shudder to think of what the Word of God will look like after I'm long gone. Man in his effort to play God will truly bring the world as we know it to an end as described in Revelations.

My Mother didn't raise a fool, the aforementioned passages could have also been tampered with by man. But you know what I'm not willing to chance the loss of my immortal soul on about you?

The reason for "Revelation 22:18-19 - 18)" is that YES- the Bible WAS tampered with and many people will tell you "their" interpretation. They will tell outright falsehoods about our country being founded on Christianity. Nope! GW the first, Jefferson (rewrote his own Bible eliminating Christ), and ETC. We don't need to make up history.

What should be the focus of Christianity should be the focus, the dwelling on, the uplifting, the praise of God's Son's biggest commandment of "loving your neighbor as thyself". The LAW and call for us ALL is obey the law Jesus said is above ALL laws. Revelations is a tenth page B-section article.

All other pages should have the GOLDEN RULE because that conservative party, that conserves NOTHING but the RICH, needs only that LAW with them. They cannot, will not grasp that one LAW of Jesus and they will be LOST in in the voting booths. We cannot serve two masters. We cannot serve thousands of laws without serving the GOLDEN RULE.

God bless you pmccray! I love you Girl!

      Dear pmccray,

I like the reference you give to Revelation, and the warning given. It is the task of the enemy to cancel, or at least limit the one ability that God has given us all. CHOICE… it’s both powerful, and misunderstood by most. Attached to every coin are two sides, such is the way of life. The side you see depends on the way in which one chooses to view it. Again… such is life; God is not a respecter of persons, but He does allow them their choice. Remember there is always a back side attached to whatever side you choose to hold in view. As Moses said…

      Deuteronomy 30:19

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live…

No matter what... God is a just God. He will give you just what you have decided to choose. Bad things can happen, especially when you play around with the information He has given us in "HIS WORD." Don’t blame Him for the consequences of your choices.

There is another passage in the same chapter of Revelation that sheds light for our understanding.

      Revelation 22:10-12

Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near. Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.” “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.

I don't believe a rewrite is in order. A return to the original language, whether it be the Masoretic text or the Samaritan text (difference of about 6000 words between the two) is what is truly in order. Then one realizes that the original scribes were in the case of Zipporah talking about two distinct and separate wives (as is discussed in the hub The Ethiopian Princess). Numerous alterations occurred to the original text with Greek and later English translations because many of the root expressions in Hebrew didn't exist in these languages. So often it became a matter of transmutation, or best fit. But as I suggest to everyone, if you want the cleanest water to drink, then go to the source of the river.

EFPotter: you comment is dead on..all hope will then be lost. We'll have one way of looking at the world and it will be ulta conservative. I haven't even bothered to watch the healthcare debate due to the supreme courts recent ruling:

Glad you brought this hub to my attention it was one of my earlier ones and it is in need of repair. Thanks so much for your input and the read. Have a great day.

What point is really left when even the Conservatives want to rewrite the Bible? This is one of those things that make you stop and look at the world and think, "This is the part in the movie where things start falling apart."

Thanks for the hub. Good info.
