No, that is not true. Where did you get that idea? There are countless examples to the contrary, for both sides.

A true believer is a child of God... God being his/her spiritual Father. As such it is difficult if not impossible for a believer to be cruel in the true sense of the word. That doesn't mean a believer can't make mistakes and perhaps say or do cruel things. If and when this occurs, the Holy Spirit lets the believer feel his wrong doing. It is then in the believer's best interest to repent of the sin and ask forgiveness. God will chastise His children if they don't repent. 1John 1:9 says, " If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us of all unrighteousness."  Concerning the unbeliever...he/she is not a child of God and is subject to the influence of satan as his/her father.  Not all unbelievers are neccessarily cruel. There are many unbelieving people that live good moral lives. They just don't have the belief required of a person to enter Heaven.

please tell me your kidding. follow a few believers on here and then see if the question doesn't answer itself. being cruel isn't about beliefs, it's about a person's way of thinking.

The Spanish Inquisition that dealt with 'suspected' witches, heretics, and any one else that they wanted out of the way?  I'm sure that they were believers in God, I'm just wondering what one, because I'm sure it had nothing to do with Christianity.
The people who blew up people in London and Northern Ireland during the troubles, they supposedly believed in God, but what one?
Those lunatics who bombed buses in London and crashed airliners into the Two Towers, in the name of God, but it had nothing to do with the Islamic God.
The Israelis in the middle east behaving like Nazis, in the name of God, they have short memories don't they?

No, that is not the case. Religion has no influence the cruelty of ones character.

I find it amazing that anyone, no matter how naive or brainwashed, could ask such a question. Are you just a troll here?

Here are a few notable atrocities attributed to "Believers":

    Spanish Inquisition: perpetrated by "believers"
Salem Witch Trials: perpetrated by "believers"
Extinction of Native Americans: perpetrated by "believers"
    Jonestown: instigated by a "believer"
    9-11: perpetrated by "believers"
    Pedophile Priests: all "believers"
Mountain Meadows Massacre: perpetrated by "believers"

And here are a few past and on-going wars conducted in the name of one god or another:

    Palestine (Jews vs. Muslims)
The Balkans (Orthodox Serbians vs. Catholic Croatians; Orthodox Serbians vs. Bosnian and Albanian Muslims), Northern Ireland (Protestants vs. Catholics)
    Kashmir (Muslims vs. Hindus)
Sudan (Muslims vs. Christians and animists)
    Nigeria (Muslims vs. Christians)
Ethiopia and Eritrea (Muslims vs. Christians)
    Ivory Coast (Muslims vs. Christians)
Sri Lanka (Sinhalese Buddhists vs. Tamil Hindus)
    Philippines (Muslims vs. Christians)
Iran and Iraq (Shiite vs. Sunni Muslims)
The Caucasus (Orthodox Russians vs. Chechen Muslims; Muslim Azerbaijanis vs. Catholic and Orthodox Armenians)

Your question is not only ludicrous, it's offensive.

Who can be cruel and who could never be cruel depends on whether a person has a well developed sense of empathy and compassion toward other human beings (and animals, as well).  It also has to do with how much someone respects other human beings, and how much he respects that living creatures feel pain (and that neither human beings nor animals are objects).

Some people kill in the name of whatever God they believe in.  Some only refrain from being cruel because they fear that they, themselves, won't get into whatever Heaven they believe in.

Regardless of belief in God or no belief in God, it is people who are not cruel because they are, by Nature, kind, caring, empathetic, people with conscience, compassion, and sensitivity toward the feelings of others who have absolutely no inclination or wish to be cruel.

Josef Stalin was a non believer. He killed more than 30 million people. He probably believed in Satan.
Adolf Hitler was a non believer.Well, maybe he believed in Satan because he killed more than 20 million.
The number of violent deaths in USA for a week is far more than all deaths in the Balkan civil war.
It was not my intention to offend anybody.
George Bush was displaying many times, with his hand, that he worship The devil. Two fingers up,like horns, and three down denying the holy trinity.
I was in the US when 9-11 happened.
The day after, a chief muslim priest said on national tv that all people who want glory for themselfs by destroying are wrong.
He said:"All glory belongs to God,not to the people".
In the Quran is written:"It is better to free 100 guilty people, than sent to prison one who is innocent."
Im cristian and Im not defending anyone, but for the sake of truth is the words from the Quran.
Some people called me names because of my question. Is that a cruelty?
    What about Mother Theresa?
Who else helped the poorest people in Calcuta-India?
What About John Rockefeller who was giving 10% of his earnings on a daily basis.
Cruelty to animals are terrible.Japanese are the people who adopt animals less than any other nations. And what they do to whales is the same.
However,I agree with opinion that a person good in the heart will not be cruel to a living soul.
But true believer in God will never be cruel, being Cristian,Jew,Muslim,Hindu or any other religion.

    # God knows everything
    # God created the universe
    # God keeps the universe going
    # God intervenes in the universe
    # God loves everyone unconditionally (though people have to comply with various conditions in order to achieve salvation)
    # Human beings can get to know God through prayer, worship, love, and mystical experiences

Totally false, look at the Crusades.
Each individual has his/her own morals, whether believers or not, some act cruelly some don't.

It has absolutly nothing to do with religon. It does however have everything to do with the person.

My cousins who believes in God are cruel and abusive. I have one cousin who however is a antichrist is very loveing. My aunt who is a beliver in God is nice and a very wonderful person.

it depends on who you are, not what religon you are.

Maybe you think that all human had 1 God. Well you're definitely wrong! There are Islam, Christian, Buddhist, ect. and they do not believed in the same God. They differ in teachings, they differ in beliefs... they follow orders from their God and lived by its rules. So being cruel is not a question whether you are a God believer or not, it is a question of how fair you are and how good is your heart.

Believers are as capable of cruelty as non believers.  I think cruelty stems from a sense of inferiority or superiority, a lack of compassion and ability to be empathetic, and a lack of concern for how our actions/words affect others.  Sadly, one would hope that believers would be less likely to behave cruelly toward others, but that is simply not the case.  A believer is a human being.  So is a non believer.  They may be capable of murder, cruelty, hatred, and judgment.  Unfortunately, a believer may interpret that their belief actually advocates these things.  It is important to keep in mind as you seek an answer to this question that not all "believers" share the same beliefs.

I do not believe that they are more cruel, but I do believe that they may have suffered more pain in their lives (as a whole).
