Nobody really knows for sure. Wait long enough, and we'll all find out whether we were right or not. I'm not going to argue about it in the meantime.
I have heard its real but really do not know. No one knows. Lets not worry, lets do all good things to the best we can , have faith in God and enjoy life.
Actually it's a myth... or worse a Lie.
When those who wanted control they used God and religion to do it.
To make you behave you were promised outrages rewards, not in this life but in the one to come.
As a guarantee, just to make doubly sure you were good you were told that God sees everything and if you were bad you would spend eternity in the fires of everlasting Hell !
Pretty Sweet Deal.... since no one was ever likely to come back and contradict them... and so they got the power they sought in this world for a false promise.
The bit I can’t understand is why so many people today still fall for it....
Because if there truly is a God and he truly sees all then Heaven must be pretty empty and Hell must be stacked to the rafters.... for I seriously doubt there is one amongst us whose inner thoughts and intentions are pure enough to pass the test !
Ah ! BUT Merlin... GOD forgives those who truly repent of their sins.....I wont get to heaven I dont repent being a sinner I enjoy it far too much ! lol
Christians get their concept of hell from the Greek Hades - which was a place where people end up when they die and also the name of the God that ruled over the Underworld.
They got the idea that demons resided in hell from the Greeks too. In Greek myth demons (daimones) caused storms at sea but were - for most of the time - imprisoned in the pit of Tartarus.
It was said - by the Greeks - that if you dropped a bronze anvil into the bottomless pit it would fall for seven days before reaching Tartarus. They obviously didn't know that the Earth has a core of molten iron.
The 'lake of fire' scenario relates to an actual place. Gehenna was the location - on the outskirts of Jerusalem - of a rubbish dump that burned continuously.
'You're going to hell if you do not repent!' is a statement - used by the clergy - to scare impressionable people in much the same way that adults sometimes frighten children with tales of 'the boogey man'.
Adults click the green button - children click the red.
Hell is real if you´re going through a rough time it depends on you to create your own heaven or hell on earth.
...so god sets up the system, you make the wrong choices (deliberately and otherwise) and he gets mad and arranges for you to suffer for all eternity.
Real mature god, you got there. (But, I suppose it's his universe and he makes the rules and if the kind of spiteful, vengeful behavior that good parents scold their children for is what he wants to indulge in, then who am I to question.)
(yeah, yeah I have heard all about the Free Will and choice thing. But think about it, the level of maturity represented is really, really kind of...childish?)
I've been told that its real. But???? I guess most of the world will find out in due time. I hope so, because if there is no Hell there can be no Heaven, and thats not cool.
We can talk about it's existence forever. I think it will always be a possibility. Many say that God or Hell don't exist because it can't be proven. I want to say that if we could absolutely prove his existence then it would nullify our free will to follow him. Faith is about believing and not seeing.
I feel bad for those who have been burned by a bad experience or have had rough upbringings. Anyone who feels that they have to cut down the faith or try to prove it's non-existence has been soured by a bad experience. You can't judge an entire faith by a few bad eggs.
Since you can't prove religion a lot of it is up to interpretation. Some people take that to an extreme, you can't use those people to judge the entire fath
@Merlin Fraser: I'm sorry that you believe it's only a means to keep people acting right. I pray that you'll come to peace with whatever happened to you to make you so bitter. Christ loves everyone regardless of what they've done.
yes it is for we are in it now, dealing with the greed and controlling of man. there no hell as burning forever for that was made up by man to but when we past we either live forever with Jesus or we cease to existence like we did before we were born
I doubt it, although the answer may vary depending on your definition of the term. The idea of eternal torture, or eternal anything for that matter, is unthinkable to me. If there is a God that sits on high as divine judge, I can't imagine Him sending someone to eternal torture for behavior carried out in a life that is only a few decades long at most.

No. If it is real then where is it? That would mean that hell is another planet, in another dimension. Well there is a hollow earth theory, but i doubt if hell is there. Just something the church came up with to keep people in line. Like the boogie man.
yes! If you believed in God, there's no reason not to believed that Hell do really exist. I feel pity to those who does not believed. Once you're there, you will know. Prepare yourself and your soul because Earth is only a testing ground for us. Believe in God and follow his teachings. Read the holy bible and believe.... God bless!
Is your mind real? You yourself create your own heaven or hell in this life you lead.
Hi,
If you believe in God ..then you have to believe u in hell..

I was taught in school that hell is real. If heaven is real then so is hell. But I was also taught that God is all forgiving.

Is hell real to you? If so, what do you think it will be like?I wrote a little about what I thought hell might be like (http://hubpages.com/hub/Afraid-of-the-Dark) but wondered what others would have to offer. Maybe you don't believe in hell and want to share what you believe happens...

Do you believe non-religious people, who lead a good life, are still going to hell? One of my biggest frustrations with religion is the idea that, how you live your life is of no consequence if you do not accept god. For example, John Smith is a good christian man who helps people, obeys the law and...

To all my friends who thought I was off base in another forum topic when I said there was no hell, I will try here to explain: God that is fair, and not sadistic. If someone was sentenced to an eternity of burning, don't you think the punishment would out weigh the crime? God ,who is our final...

Why are there spirits roaming the earth? Does this means that there is no heaven or hell?

With so many people believing in their own version of what [God] is or isn't; what [He] should should not represent, the question comes to mind if the average person could be or was [God]: What would your ten commandments be?How would you deal with criminals?Would you allow your olnly child to die...
