If irrefutable proof of an extraterrestrial would most people stop believing in God?
If irrefutable proof and presentation of an extraterrestrial traveling to Earth and communicating with mankind would people stop believing in God? I am wondering how the idea of God co-exists with the idea of Aliens or are they "mutually" exclusive?
No. Because most people would work it out as one of two possibilities.
1: God is an All Powerful creator and in all the Universe, he certainly did not just create us. So the proof of extraterrestrial life, especially intelligent life capable of what we would recognise as communication would reinforce the idea that God simply created other life besides us.
2: The extraterrestrial would be construed as the Devil and it would reinforce the idea that God wants us to "fight" him.
All you need to do is look at 35,000 years worth of human history to see that people don't just stop believing in something because of new developments.
Time was disease was the will of God. Now we have vaccinations and it's the will of God to give those vaccinations to the less fortunate.
So believe me, the truly religious zealots will find away to work God into the presence of extraterrestrial life somehow.
There was a time (16th century) that theologians believed that extra-terrestrials were a necessity of creation.
Some people would we all know that; but just because people will one day find out that we are not alone in the universe. It does't mean we will all give up on what we believe in. When that time comes some peoples beliefs will only get stronger. It will also bring the planet together in a whole new way. Not world peace but a new way of thinking..... why do you think that alien visits are being covered up. Our leaders are afraid of what will happen when we all accept we are not alone...
It would depend on the person. Many would doubt what they knew to be true or beleived. There would be those who would see no reason to lose their faith, just because the existence of extraterrrestrials was proven.

Ultimately, Christianity is a personal thing before a personal God, not the church. Could it just be that human beings are screwed up and like any other organization on the face of this earth, the church has its fair share of screw balls? To not believe because of a few pharisees is foolish. If we...

Atheists, can you remember the moment you stopped believing in god?Obviously theism and atheism aren't switches that can be easily turned on or off. These kind of decisions are made after a lifetime of knowledge and experiences. But, as an atheist, can you remember the moment where it all added up?...

I keep hearing and reading this phrase and I must confess it doesn't make sense to me. I know what "Believe" means and I know what "in" means. It's when the two words are put together I don't understand.Phrases like "Do you believe in God?" or; "I believe in...
