First, write quality stuff on topics you care about or for which you have much knowledge. Do not imitate anyone. Learn something from every writer who moves you, but work hard at developing your own voice.
Second, work hard at the craft of writing. NEVER take your first draft as being a finished product. Rewrite, edit, cut, reword, refashion. Most of my Hubs are not ready until the third and sometimes the fourth rewrite.
Third, be patient with yourself and with the process of writing. And be patient with developing a fan base. It takes a great deal of time to become a good writer. It's actually a neverending process. I'm fifty-five and have been writing one thing or another since I was eleven, and I still look to learn and apply something new in my writing.
