   I read this shocking comment about Muslims, from a reputable hubber which stunned me.........
   
   he/she wrote, I Quote ..."I mean, what has the Islamic world given us in the past 500 years? Oil? They didn't know it was there, how to get it out of the ground, or what use it had if they did. Camels don't use oil."..... Now  do you think this is a fair statement?

   Actually you should feel sorry for a person who makes an uninformed comment like that. They may have a point that is valid from some snap shot in time frame of reference but over all the contribution of Islamic Culture, known as Ummah, has been astounding and stunning.
   
   Take a look at the Wikipedia article on the Ummah.
   Classical culture of Islam made significant and stunning contributions in , Architecture, Sciences, Mathematics, Medicine and just about any field you can mention.
   
   It even was during the Islamic domination of Spain that Europe came out of the "dark ages".
   
   So when anyone, of any faith or nationality, makes such a misinformed statement they obviously hated homework when they were in school because they sure have not done their homework on this one.

   No, it is likely not a fair statement but I defend their right to make it.  I don't have to agree with the subject matter to believe in free speech and the freedom to have an unpopular opinion.

   It was not fair but none able to become fair if come from anger or hate. It easy to see how this person becoming so blind and loved it very much.
   
   But I did stumble upon way funnier line before.
   
   It was said, "Islam had decided want to spread it's religion to the world by having as much babies as possible so everyone, let's do the same! Let's making babies as much as possible!" Not in exact line but something like this.
   
   I told this person, "Hey, good luck with that babies project! I hope it works well. ^_^"
   
   I guess, sometimes hatred can caused the brain freeze a little bit.

   what happened in 1492 - beside Columbus? After 700 years of muslim rule the bottom tip of Spain was recovered. The ancient Greek texts were preserved in Arabic and were translated into Latin - which ended the Dark Ages and began the Renaissance!

    Without knowing the context from which the quote was taken from, I can not speak of it's " fairness".
    
    I do not see you offering any contridictions to it, tho!  Are there any?  Have they advanced in literature, medicine, education, agriculture?
    
    DID they know how to draw and process the oil?
    
    Rather than verbally call the other poster out for humiliation, tell us the intelligent rebuttal........

    Sadly, it’s no surprise to see such a statement, the world is filled with people so indoctrinated with their own beliefs, especially in themselves, that opinions that seem acceptable to them, can actually be deeply offensive to others.
    
    Right here in your answers, there’s an example. You have someone writing to dismiss the one whose initial comment gave rise to your question, with the throwaway line, “The Hubber ... seems to be a  someone, who never finished High School. (sic) ....Remember. The Truth always Prevails”.
    
    Whose truth? Speaking as someone who never finished High School, I find that statement both patronising and offensive. But I’m not holding my breath for an apology. As I said, the world is filled with the self-important, for whom a backward step is far too damaging to the ego.
    
    But strident self-righteousness doesn’t necessarily equate to truth, in this instance from neither the Hubber who’s caused you concern, nor the one who’s insulted me.

    Certainly the statement is outrageous and even divisive. But don't give in to such divisiveness -- such polarization. Don't be part of the problem by "taking sides."
    
    Love the person, not the evil they do. Continue to do good things and be patient about their craziness.

    I believe that we are all here on this earth to learn from each other--that means to be kind in word and thought. And when someone says anything negative--Rise Above It---.
    Getting to know people from different countries and different background is a very rewarding experience.
    It doesn't matter where you are from or where you live do not let anyone's words stay in your mind or on your heart.
    And it does not matter what religion you belong to---it is how one treats others, that really matters.
    So, I say to you don't be shocked, because some people are negative, in their words and thoughts---and that is their problem. Do not be a sponge for anyone's negative words.

    Just a thought:  Wouldn't answering that first question make a great hub?  or a series of hubs.  (500 years is a lot of material to cover.)   
    
    Personally I would start with architecture; but, that's just me.

    Rather than condemning this person, I think they need to hear the Facts about these oil-producing countries, some of which are technologically far ahead of the USA.  It's a mistake not to correct the history so that they learn something.

    I don't think this way.  Just because somone writes something offensive doesn't mean you have to respond to it. In fact, I'd argue you have given that persons posts about Islam merit by getting so offended.  You know the things written about Americans? Get thicker skin like the rest of the world.

    I mean in all honesty, this does not reflect my opinion on the religion or faith, but from a historic perspective I would say... he is correct. Camels don't run on oil, nor do the people really need oil for much. However, everyone is important. Although saying that every single person in the middle east, which I assume they are referring to, is an off base statement. The ignorance is that they assume that Islam is the only religion oversees and in the world. When you say "Islamic world" you also include the Islamic people in the US and and around the world, not just the middle east, unless this person is talking about Mecca, which then they should have just said that.
