How would Jesus answer that question: are the churches of today setting a good example? His answer is recorded:
“Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will.” (Matthew 7:21)
What’s the criteria, what is his will that they should be doing it? Did God’s Son mean that even those doing good things similar to those commanded, are evidently doing it in a wrong way or with a wrong motive? Jesus explained that it’s necessary that we find out what God’s will is, set a good example, and then be doing it.
Just declaring: Lord, Lord, and then claiming to be doing powerful works, did not convince Jesus, did it? Did they earn his approval, evidently their works were not according to God’s will because he rebuked them with:
“I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness.”
