What is your most reliable source of inner strength?

Many people pray, others try making their thoughts positives, and still others just keep going despite feeling weak and apprehensive. How to gain strength when you are mentally terribly down and are feeling as if anything or anyone will crush you?

God is number one and faith in Him, relaxing is great and hum...sing whatever but to know you have the holy spirit with you 24-7 is the only way I have made it through many life threatening situations. Believe and you receive.

Great question! I think durable inner strength takes work: meditation, mindfulness, developing compassion. Faith is great if you have it but it's faith...ie you don't know. Building your own inner strength with tried and tested methods is my suggestion. My preference is for a physical metaphor such as Tai Chi where you build inner qualities that are also 'stress tested' with partner work.

Inner strength of every person differs from one and another. My inner strength is the love of my life and my family.

For me, it is myself and the realization that I am in control of my own life.  I have the power to be happy, no matter what the circumstances.  This is my strength.  When feeling down, like my life is out of control, I take the time to appreciate as many things in my life as I can.  It doesn't matter how small, or how big.  From the pillows on my bed to the dearest of my friends.  I look at all the positives in my life.

Again, You are the creator of your own Universe.  The choices you make in life are Yours.  If you don't want to feel weak and apprehensive, then don't.  Choose not to feel that way and feel appreciative for all of the good in your life instead.

When you concentrate on the good stuff and not the bad stuff, you bring more good things into your life.  Try it. =]

I learn as much as I can and practice doing the right things, while being as honest and as positive as I can.  Then when the road gets rough I trust myself.

I always gain strength from observing nature at work. It helps to meditate in front of the ocean, watching the sky, the stars, the moon and the sun. You realize that your problems are unimportant to the bigger picture. The day we die, the planet will continue to turn and the ocean will not disappear.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." My faith and trust that I've placed in my God,my Lord, my Savior is my only strength. When I am weak, He is strong. He is my rock, my salvation. In Christ alone I stand.

positive thinking instead of negative thinking is essential for me as your subconscious mind will believe anything you tell it, even if it's not really try.  If you say that you will fail, you will.  Willpower alone won't work, but without the belief and desire to improve your thoughts and actions, nothing will be accomplished. I have certain mantras that I post up around my home and I repeat them out loud.  Even if I do not believe them at the time, just saying them out loud makes you feel stronger.
