Why do we all have "something to prove"?

Having something to prove is part of the growth process.  But the best part of this growth is when you can sit back and be comfortable with yourself and get to that point in your life where you have nothing to prove.  You are comfortable in your own skin because you know yourself so well.

Skeptics need proof, so we need to present the facts and figures to support our ideas and opinions.

Maybe to prove because we do not want to be judged by other people? x

Because deep down we all feel inadequate and rather than having something to prove to other people that is really just an extension of our desire to prove something to ourselves.

In America we are just built that way.  Our Revolutionary war and our intricate history is living proof of what I write.  I also feel that Americans don't necessarily have something to prove to other people, rather we strive to prove our potential to ourselves.

    Do we, really?

Honestly, I am not attempting to argue with you, but I have addressed life with this mantra.......

Here, I am, and this is what I have...........or can do.  For me, there is no problem in telling you, that I have no talent in a particular areana.

Is that argumentive, or reflecting the need to prove something?

Is it?,  Please, educate me.......there is something about your question or viewpoint that I fail to grasp........be honest and straightforward, so that I might learn.

We, as humans (or at least as sentient beings), want to be understood as much as to understand.

Most of us are so ever conscious of others' views of us, that even with the strongest integrity, sometimes it is "a fishbowl" existence or consciousness that, even if only by a scintilla, effects our behavior.

Reality shows are just our impulse to "live to the camera" - only on steroids and wayyyyyyyyy overproduced (and often scripted or partially scripted if you ask me!).

    Because we exist ...

Another way of looking at the Reality of our Being ... Is in that we are asserting our presence ... by such means as picking up a cause ... and spending the rest of our lives proving the correctness of our Choices.

I have a friend who insists that absolutely everyone "has something to prove".  I have to say I don't think that everyone does.  Knowing that I don't feel like I have anything AT  ALL to prove, and assuming I can't possibly be the only one who feels that way; I can't help but wonder if sometimes what looks like "having something to prove" to some people really isn't that at all.  OR, maybe it's just that I'm "middle-aged" and have outgrown any feeling like I had something to prove (although I don't remember feeling that even when I was a child either though).   hmm    .....and yet my friend doesn't believe there's such a thing as someone who has nothing to prove; so who knows....

I believe that you will find people in the "middle" have more to prove or something to prove.

I will give you an example from my own life. I have travelled on airlines in economy, business and first class. The people in the economy and first class seats are normally quite nice. I guess that the economy class passengers want to save money and could not care less about being seen in those seats. The first class passengers are most likely loaded with money and are enjoying their money. It is the people in business class who seem to be the most stressed out bunch.

I think that people in the "middle" feel more of a need to prove something than others.

I don't know if everyone does - I would say when we are younger that it's maybe more likely. But I think most of us do have a competitive streak in us and this could be part of having 'something to prove'. Also it might not be that we have anything to prove to other people, but instead we have something to prove to ourselves.
