Do you think people should work on improving their weaknesses or perfect their strengths?

As children, we are always taught to improve our weaknesses. As an adult I find it's more beneficial to work my strengths and stop wasting time on things I'm not good at, what do you think?

It depends.......does your daily life require  you to use the skills that  you are weak in?

You might not be strong in getting the most value for your money........But it is certainly a valuable skill today.

You might be weak in home repair, but it could serve you well.

Personally, I am one good cook.  It would be to my benefit to become a skilled meat cutter ( butcher), a lost art.   My "value" in the work place would go up!

If you are a surgical nurse, who does no cooking or meat cutting...........YES, get all the education that you can, become the BEST surgical nurse that you can.   I might be the next patient, and I certainly want a highly skilled pro.

I can not imagine, that I could not benefit, from knowing a little about everything.  At least, let me stay in the conversation!

Hmm ... this is a very good question.
In my opinion, if it is possible to work on one's weaknesses as an adult, it would be beneficial. Yet, this is up to each person - we all have our own paths. What is good for me is not necessarily good for someone else, much depends on circumstances.
    Cheers!

Great question! I think that improving one's weaknesses is better and more proficient than perfecting strengths. I believe that strengths are somehow automatically improved through life experiences and daily routines.

I believe we should learn from our mistakes and improve from there.

If one does not correct the mistake, it will definitely re-occur again. Whether weaknesses or strengths, one should makes the attempt to correct it as soon as it is shown. Letting it be may result certain consequences at later stage.

It should be corrected on the spot regardless whether it is weaknesses or strengths.

I think just being aware of our strengths and weaknesses is really important.  My strengths can help others where they may be weak, and my weaknesses allow me to grow in humility and learn receive and let others shine.

Good question, Eddie. And I agree with OneGoodWoman... it depends.

A few years ago, I read a good book about Emotional Intelligence. Now, that is one area of weakness everyone should improve on.

It has been said that IQ is only 20% of our success, but EQ (emotional quotient) is responsible for 80%.

Do the smart thing and keep improving the good things (not just what you're good at).

Potent example: If a guy has a real big weakness with murder, I'd better hope the guy would improve on that weakness right away and turn himself in.

Yes of course. It is very important as we want a better life. I mean if we want to achieve perfection in our work then we have improve our weakness and perfect our strengths.

I think it's up to what a person feels would be better for them. What I feel personally is that when we work on our weaknesses - either to improve or accept them, after all we are only human - then this tends to make us more whole as a person as well as giving us a feel good factor. Building up on strengths is also a postive thing, but some weaknesses may hamper our efforts to improve our strengths.

I think improving on our weaknesses is important. By doing that, we increase our  strengths as we go along.

lone77star, great point... lol.  I laughed my butt off when I read your example and yes, he needs to work on that weakness.

onegoodwoman, It might be beneficial for the surgical nurse to take a class at meat cutting, just a thought smile

    misaleonessa, nicely said.

danette watt, So it's like working out, when you strengthen the large muscle groups you're bound to improve the smaller ones smile
