In trouble or pain or hurt why do we remember our mother and not the father?
Good question. Although we love our dads, mothers are much closer to us because we come from inside them. Indeed dad helped us by contributing only a squirt of sperm , and a microscopic one of thousands to penetrate the egg, but mom did most of the work by carrying us around for nine months.
I loved my father, and it is a wonderful feeling to have good old dad riding us on his knee on those horsy rides, but when dad gets aggravated, and disgusted , and agitated , it is time to run for your life to mother into mom's arms as we escape the wrath of dad.
Moms are ususually with the kids 24/7 while dads are not.
What a great question! I am not sure everyone does think more about mom. I think it largely depends on who was the one who comforted you when you were growing up. I think if that person was mom, in later life you would probably think of her. If it was your dad though, you may think more of him. One other thought on this:
If our pain is emotional, we may think more of mom. If it has to do with a practical situation or a physical one, we may think more of dad. Traditional roles in parenting I think play into this. As those roles change so will our source of comfort.
Mothers are typically a symbol of nurture and comfort, were as fathers are typically characterized as the disciplinarian and stern force. When we're hurting or in pain, we of course want comfort, hence remembering our mothers.
it has to be an international thing.. my father was a absolute abusive jerk.. but to be honst, none of them come to mind when i hurt or have pain or any kind of trouble.. i rely on me to get through it, no one else can as well as i.
We remember those that gave us the nuture we needed. It's not about who carried us for nine months. If that was the case adopted children could not find solace in either parent. We turn to those that give us the emotional and physical solace we need. And, if we can not find that comfort in our parents we turn to others who provide what we need. That can be a grandparent, uncle, aunt or even an older sibling. It is, I believe, what even draws our youth into gangs if they can not fill an emotional or physical need in their family environment. And, that's sad.
We'll alway remember or revert to whomever truly loves/loved us! We always revert to the one that is supportive as well as understanding of all our short comings and mishaps. For many it's their mother and for others its their father.
Because mothers are the most loving and caring, we come through our mothers and you can't get any closer than that.
Brilliant question.. Well i would like to answer that . when we are hurt of in pain , we need comfort , care and love and who else than mother can symbolize all the affection love and care in this world !

My mother passed away last week she would have been 93 on the 5th of May. It seems strange not to pick up the phone and talk to her. She was suffering so we were glad to see her go to be with my Dad but also sorry that she was gone.
