If you read in Revelation 12:9 and 20:2, Satan is described as a serpent:
"The great dragon was hurled down- that anvient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray." -Revelation 12:9
"He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years." - Revelation 20:2
When God addressed the serpent in Genesis, He said, "Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. (Genesis 3:14)" God was portraying the serpent as a vile and detestable creature...lower than any other creature. God used the serpent as an illustration. The serpent was cursed to be tormented all the days of its life. Satan met a similar fate. In Revelation 20:10 it says, "And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
God has never left us. He gives us the ability to choose Him, just as He has chosen us. He offers every one of us the gift of grace through His son who died for all of our sins.
