I think many people seem to follow whatever agenda that's being pushed onto the masses, and so with that said. If there was a media engine that was pushing the tale of such bad fortune in a major way, than the overall appearance as such would be the case.
I think all the propaganda on the end of the world saga fantasy has been played out many months ago, and currently has very little if any relevance or hold on things now. This is a factor primarily based on popular demand for certain things people are viewing and possibly falling for these days.
Pretty much its not being pushed enough so it won't be the issue to discuss pretty much, and whats hot on people's minds overall. Especially the fact that Christmas was just yesterday, and people have been thinking mostly about the positive, as opposed to such a year end spoiler as the Fictional end of the World mess.
Just look out for any new commercial's though that might attempt to steal the spot light in the days to come till 2012 hits, so to achieve monetary lift off, in the theme of earning the most viewers as in any social media web source, or on TV, which they've been been doing year in and year out. You never know, Right!
Don't forget the Y2K false alarm scare back in 2000, and Harold Campings false biblical prophecy, being spread, which also was a fail back in April If I do recall.
