I think the main difference is that spirituality is not confined by the dogmas of religious rules, beliefs and rituals and is more an individual outlook on such matters.

Religion for me is a class and opinions are based on how one chooses to live their lives. Spirituality is a state of being. It moves you to encourage, promote and educate. and ones thoughts  would allow your life to become manageable despite everything around you. It is a driving force to be better, and do better!

A Religion for me is like the rule book of what you believe. But you can have spirituality without following any religion. Spirituality can be looked on as a person who has a deeper connection to and a belief in higher spiritual minds. Therefore they may follow a religion that they feel reflects their views or the may not follow any and still believe in the creator, great spirit or whatever name people feel more in tune with.

The difference between Religion and Spirituality can be very different for each person. However, I see religion as a set of rules, beliefs, and guidelines that you have to follow in order to be a part of that religion (or to follow it correctly) like the 10 Commandments. In this way, I see "religion" as made by man to exclude others that are not of the same mindset. I combine beliefs from many different religions into my spirituality.

Spirituality is much different in that it is individualized and part of a community at one time. Spirituality is a state of being that allows you to determine your own beliefs and guidelines, while at the same time connecting to others of a higher spiritual mindset. You may each have different beliefs but work together so you can all move forward on your individual spiritual paths. Spirituality is more than just saying you are. You have to feel it and continue learning about yourself and others in order to grow.
