What does it mean to "seize the day"? Does that mean live for the moment, make each day spectacular, or something else? What does it mean to you?

Make the most of this day...you may not get another.  I like what Martin Luther said when asked if he only had one day to live, what would he do...plant a tree!

'Seize the day' comes from the Latin expression 'carpe diem' from  poet Horace's Odes.  Literary quotes illustrate how 'life' and 'death' 'time' and 'being human' influence the meaning of the aphorism 'seize the day'.  Loosely translated it means 'live for the moment' and 'make the most of today'. read more

Come to realize all u truly have is the eternal now. Each moment passes and fades away into past no longer solid but a shade. The future is shaped by what u do in the now. It is forever coming each and every moment. Choose in the now what you truly want to have and experience. You can do whatever you want because each moment is new! Carpe Diem!

It is an opportunity that does not come by often and I would seize the day when it comes.

Things come and go but at times, you may find yourself having the upper hand in things and you will need to seize that opportunity for the day otherwise it may be gone forever.

That is what I think it means to me.

I like all these answers and I agree with them as far as the meaning of "seize the day" goes. Carpe Diem (seize the day) means grab whatever chance life is offering you today, because if you allow it escape, it will be gone forever. Seize the opportunity, live life to the fullest, dive into it and make it your own. For all it's worth, I leave that to the members of the Dead Poets Society. My personal philosophy is less is more. But it's a good questions.

To me, it means to make the most of each day. Everyday is brand new and is a gift from God. Live each to the fullest as though it was your last. Don't live with daily regrets.

    Seize the day means:

Don't waste the day--be productive in whatever way works for you.

It means you don't spend all your time on Hubpages asking useless questions. Just kidding. It just means that you make the most of your time! Don't procrastinate. Be productive. Be goal-oriented.

I think it basically means we should make the most of today, because we don't know what's coming our way tomorrow or even if tomorrow will come. It's also about not worrying so much and not thinking things through too much, just do it.
