This will be an odd answer. I have gathered from reading the replies that the central theme is religion = god. And, I find it odd you find it boring. Explaining further. My religion has been NHRA drag racing. No I am not spamming. Today, my religion, a recent convert of sorts, is Hubpages.
Dictionary.com defines religion with 5 subsets. The main or first is this:
"a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs."
So, does the entity of the whole being hubpages fit this definition? First there is 'no' mention of a deity.
"A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe."
Allegorically the internet or world wide web is the universe
"especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies"
allegorically that is hubpages and hubbers
"Usually involving devotional and ritual observances"
allegorically posting hubs, comments, questions, forum quests, following hubbers, being followed, interacting with what has been published, etc.
"often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs"
allegorically we have defined Terms of Service and Standard Operating Procedures.
So, not trying to be controversial, I do not find religion 'boring to discuss.'
Going a little further. There is not any mention of specific belief systems or systems of beliefs in the definition of religion only "a set of belief." My personal view is that religion is not necessarily synonymous with reverence to a deity.
It is the connotations attached to the word religion that is deceptive. Not to be espousing Christian thought or others - Taoism, Buddha, Hindu, etc. but they all say somewhere to give caution to 'false religions' before god being that of deity.
Awww heck. You are right this is boring talking about religion :)
