Is my spirit guide trying to contact me?

Before I fell asleep last night I watched a Youtube video about Tibet. Around 3:00 a.m. I was awoken by a vivid dream in which the name "Asmodine" was floating in the middle of a dream about which I cannot remember.  I could not get back to sleep and Googled the name, which I discovered is Tibetan. I watched the Youtube video again to see if the name is mentioned, which it is not. I have recently been reading a lot about spirits, devas, and angels. What do you think?

"Asmodine" does not sound Tibetan, and this Google search:

...turned up no connection between the two.

Perhaps I'm just a horrible materialist and all-around insensitive person, but I think the meaning of your dream may lie a little closer to home.

Try sitting still in a quiet place with a pencil and paper.  Have a dialogue with Asmodine and see what she/he says.  Start by inviting this presence into your psyche.  Ask it what it wants.  Then listen and write it down.  You may not hear words as though someone is speaking, but something will occur to you.  Write it down.  Certainly you are trying to get in touch with an unknown part of yourself.  Good luck.

'Asmodine' seems to be a character in the video game World of Warcraft, which is intriguing. Makes you wonder where they got the name:

Here's a UK guy who uses the screen name Asmodine and has a guru associated with Kundalini work:

Asmodeus is a demon with a long multicultural history. Demons were called devas in earlier religions. This guy sounds pretty fierce:

I've had very similar experiences with names and dreaming. Once woke up to the name "Satchitananda" whispered in my ear, and another time to the chant, "Om deva shanti, shant deva shanti, shanti shanti shanti," and that all worked out fine over a long period of time and inquiry.

Also had an encounter in my 30s with a being that called itself "Theliel" and never found out if that was truly what it presented itself as or something else, but nothing negative came of it--in fact it seemed like some good things came of it, so I don't worry about it.

Carl Jung had a famous encounter with an incorporeal teacher who gave the name of "Philemon."

I would say something is trying to get your attention. Whether it your own higher self, an entity or spirit, or a spirit guide is hard to say. One thing about these incorporeal beings is, some of them will say anything to get your attention. Doesn't always mean they are demonic though. You'll be able to tell by the results. Make sure you set your intention every morning and whenever you think of it and you should be fine. Sounds like you are already on a journey of some sort!

I've also had many dreams with names. Most of the time it's a flashback to a past life. Maybe this was you, or someone who was dear to you in a past life. It's possible that it might be a spirit guide, but in my experience spirit guides usually show their face as an introduction. Whenever I've dreamt of names, they're usually trying to tell me something about a place or someone. Whenever that happens I say "I'm getting a crank call," because there is usually a name, and no message.

These are the various tricks which your brain plays with you. Your subconscious mind must have stored some data related to this name. The subconscious becomes active when you sleep. Many a times I also dream and find some names, some tunes, some places in my dreams which I think I have never heard, listened or seen before, but the matter of the fact is - it surely is coming from my subconscious, where else? I may have long forgotten those. Sometimes you think that you have heard that name, listened that tune or seen that place from a dream before but you don't remember when and where. Because its buried deep inside your subconscious and your active consciousness will not allow you to get there.

When someone hypnotizes you, he has the complete access to data stored in your subconscious mind, which you may also have forgotten!!
