Who would Jesus eat with today?
Jesus ate with sinners and tax collectors who were considered the lowlifes of society at the time and many felt the Messiah should have eaten with the pharisees because they were the elite.
So, who would be the sinners and tax collectors of today?
Well, I'm a (recovering) drunkin' junkie and He eats with me every day!
Anyone that have given their heart to Christ will eat with Him!
In my very humble opinion, we're surrounded with people Jesus would eat with today. People with AIDS, prostitutes, those with drug/alcohol addictions, troubled teens, those with emotional/mental problems, etc. They're all around us. The question is since as His followers we're supposed to be carrying on His work, who will we eat with?
Jesus typically ate with those who needed him the most. Those who society did not think highly of. It could be any number of groups. Gays, politicians, those with AIDS, sinners and outcasts of society. The love Jesus has for others is impossible for some people to understand, especially when those people are not like us. Jesus was ridiculed and insulted for allowing sinners to be near him, but those are the ones who needed and still need him the most.
Jesus said, "Behold I stand at the door and knock if any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in to him and sup with him and he with me." (Rev 3;20)
"...I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance." ( Matt 9:13) It clearly indicates Jesus will have fellowship with anyone who is willing to invite him into their lives.
We also know from the story of Zachaeus who was wiling to give up his wicked ways, when he knew Jesus was coming to his house.
Actually, Jesus did eat with Pharisees, as well as sinners and tax collectors. He made his Pharisee hosts pretty uncomfortable. Scripture doesn't say how uncomfortable he made the lowlifes, but he must have for any of them to change their ways.
Let's put the question in the negative. Who would Jesus NOT eat with today? If there is anyone in that category at all, it could only be people unwilling to accept his company. Jesus himself was willing to associate with anyone who wanted his company. He did not reject anyone as unsuitable for his divine majesty.
The whole human race is invited to a heavenly banquet. All who are willing may come.
I just got to read the replies to this question, very good points indeed. I feel that the pharisees of today are those who look at you funny if you're not dressed up for church.
Well, perhaps. It works the other way, too. I prefer to dress up for church, and someone actually rebuked me for wearing a tie!
The "Pharicees of today' are still with us...the tax collectors are but their servants.
5% of humanity controls 90% of the world's wealth [the Economist magazine] .
They will not be eating with Jesus. Whoever accepts, forgives, and helps others in the proper way whenever they can without judgement will always be welcome.
Here is a quote from a source that has given me much comfort an knowing lately:
Jesus was “The Truth and The Life”, an Ascended Individualized Conscious Awareness, (or a “Son of God” level Holy Ghost), who as the “Light of God” descended down to the denseness of 3rd dimensional level human bodies from the 14th dimensional level of God’s Awareness to live as a Christed One and give humanity the wisdom about creation and the truth about God....
The lack of words and wisdom from Jesus in the New Testament is simply because almost all of the vast amount of Jesus’ wisdom and teachings that were once written down, were hunted down and destroyed by the Roman Empire, the Islamic Empire and/or the Vatican.......................thetruejesus.org

What did Jesus mean, when he said this to the woman he rescued from being stoned, and to the lame man he had commanded to walk?

Why do the pharisees who call themselves Christians hate the thought of Universal salvation?I have not seen such hate and spamming against this belief anywhere else other than on these hubs? They desire the hell preaching teachers over the beautiful doctrine of absolute love, forgiveness and mercy....
