   Is tithing biblical?
   
   Is it biblical to teach Christians today that they are required to tithe 10% of their earnings?

   Yes tithe preceded the law therefore when grace came tithe was still a spiritual mandate that God still required.
   
   Tithing existed since the days of Cain & Abel, it first fruit wherein Abel's offering pleased God but Cains's didn't (because it came from out of the ground and the ground was cursed). 
   
   Also Abraham offer tithes to Melchizedek before the advent of the law because these: Moses of Levi of Jacob of Issac were all not yet born.
   
   God always requires the first of what man has a tenth is the numerical figure determined by the law of Moses and is a reasonable amount for conscious sake.
   However if one devote a tithe to God by faith God will multiply the 90% or the remaining income time or talent that one has.
   
   Try God and tithe you finances, you be surprised how God will multiply what remains.

      That is a very creative way to hang onto an Old Testament Law.  You are saying that tithing preceded the Law,yet the tithe itself is a Law.It preceded the Mosaic Law.So what,it is still an OT Law that Jesus fulfilled.You are splitting hairs.

      Just as nature has definite laws,ie gravity. The Law of Tithing was placed in the conscious of man and was articulated in Mosiac Law.  Just as the ancients didn't know the formulas of scientific laws yet heeded them.  There are consequences.

      Jesus sacrifice on the cross was the perfect offering that pleased God and settled the law. "put my laws into their hearts...sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Heb10:16,17

   Well, it is in the Bible, so in that sense it is biblical.  I assume you are asking if Christians are obliged to tithe today.  As I see it, the answer is no.  According to the New Testament, Jesus fulfilled the whole law.  You would not think of taking a lamb to Church to sacrifice.  You are not bound by laws about food, Sabbaths or any other Old Testament Law.  It is interesting that Pastors who know that the whole Law was fulfilled in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus, do not hesitate to hang on to that one Law, the Tithe.  It gives leverage to those who need to collect money when they can quote Old Testament references to the tithe.  In the New Testament, Paul simply said to give generously and cheerfully.  Also, Paul said to simply decide in your own heart what you will give, then give it.  No tithe, only offerings.  I cringe every time I hear a sermon about tithing.  These pastors know better.

   I have tried it both ways. 
   
   My husband and I tithed, then we stopped.  Years later, I read a book about giving the tenth, and I was convicted in my heart to tithe again...therefore, I started tithing in 2007. 
   
   I believe tithing is biblical.  However, I do not find it appropriate to hammer it into other Christians that they are required to tithe.  I feel if someone is led in his/her heart and Spirit to tithe, they will.   If someone tithes out of obligation, with hesitation or even resentment, it is of no good or use to that individual.  I know this from experience.  We previously tithed to a church that led us into bondage and we just could not be blessed because of our attitudes.
   
   My husband does not tithe.  I do.  My husband has no problem with me giving 10 percent of any monies I receive to God.  Since I do not attend church, I give it to a Christian radio station that has blessed me beyond belief.  I believed it is very important to give one's tithe to whomever is blessing you spiritually.
   
   My son, daughter, friends and family and acquaintances have no clue that I tithe.  It is between me and God.
   
   That being said, I have been faithfully tithing for five years.  God has never let me down.  I joyfully RECEIVE any blessing He offers me.  Quite often friends surprise me and treat me to lunch.  I receive unexpected gift cards to stores, movies, and my favorite place, Barnes & Noble.  I consider these all from God.  I find clothing items on sale all the time.  I've also received unexpected money.
   
   As far as the question, "Is tithing biblical?"  I believe the answer is yes.  However, I believe that with Christians, tithing should be a choice, not an obligation...especially if Christians are not comfortable giving the 10 per cent. 
   
   To anyone considering tithing, I would only suggest to try it for six months and see what happens.  For myself, I considered it an experiment. 
   
   The results?  Tithing, for me, will be a life-long habit until God takes me into eternity.
