    What does it mean to you when the Prophet Jeremiah 20:6 says" it's like fire shut up in my bones?

    I read the passage in context, and both in the NIV and NAS:
    8 For each time I speak, I cry aloud;
             I proclaim violence and destruction,
             Because for me the word of the LORD has resulted
             In reproach and derision all day long.

    9 But if I say, “I will not remember Him
             Or speak anymore in His name,”
             Then in my heart it [the word NIV] becomes like a burning fire
             Shut up in my bones;
             And I am weary of holding it in,
             And I cannot endure it.

    I would say a prophet cannot hold in the word of the LORD.  God calls them to proclaim it and it can (more often than not) bring laughter and mocking (vs. 7), reproach and derision (vs. 8).  Therefore, Jeremiah wished he could actually not speak anymore in His name; however that fire of God (the Word, the Holy Spirit) within him won't let him stay silent.  This is an example of the war between flesh and Spirit.

      Yes, "war between flesh & Spirit!"
      We (man) are human & sometimes question GOD (who me?) but that "nagging" urge continues until u MUST satisfy by proclaiming "The Gospel of Christ!"
      Oh, what a joy it is when u obey! He gives WORDS to say

    I think you mean Jer 20:9 right?  I'm no scholar but it seems to suggest an element of pain.  In the context of the verse, it's more like an tremendous ache that can only be satisfied by doing what God commands him (Jeremiah) to do.  Think about it, if you've ever come close to a flame it's painful, right? Now try to think of that pain deep inside of you (which is where your bones are) - it's not something you can get away from. You'll essentially have to rip yourself apart to get it out and get relief.

      I remember what it was like the first time God gave me an interpretation for a group.  I fought it and said, "NO!" (shy, just didn't want to)...but, it was over-powering, an inward, building pressure, strong, and so I did give the message.

    It means, paraphrased," Danggit, Lord, this message and the people's response aint no fun!!  Yeah, I know, it's Your current message, so I'll send it forth and let the fireballs fall where they may...'cause I'm 'on fire for You!'"
    This is the situation for many Christians, not just prophets.  I often tell folks that "sharing the gospel (John 3:16-18) is designed by God to HARDEN hearts, not just BREAK them for regeneration.  The Grace part is it's HIS call which way it goes.  As Stonewall Jackson used to say, "Duty is ours.  Consequences are God's."

      I Agree!
      MOST on HP have said I am too HARD w/TRUTH fm WORD but as u said Stonewall Jackson said "Duty is ours. Consequences are God's."

    thank you all for your comments...but when you read the story of the whole verse of 20 it shows us how Jeremiah was frustrated at the people for being so rebellion and he got mad that he vowed he would not say a word about God to them since they refuse to listen but because God's word is fire in our bellies/bones Jeremiah could not keep his mouth shut he had to tell the good news of God..Just like we do today, when we read his word don't you get that fire in your belly that you can't sit still you gotta let people know about this Jesus// again thank you all for comment I do appreciate it. have a bless day

    From, WATERSTAR, this is a Wise question, People are alike of all Color and Creed in Almost every Civilization And Centries, We All Have a tendancy Not To Liscen To the Good But Publish The Bad and Accept The Bad as it is written In The Gospel of ST.JOHN, LIGHT WHICH IS VERY GOOD Have COME INTO THIS WORLD BUT MEN AND WOMEN LOVE DARKNESS MUCH MORE THAN LIGHT, During THE TIME Of JEREMIAH IN His YOUNG YEARS AS A Prophet in ISRAEL after The Death OF The Good King That Help The People and Cause Them to Serve The GOD of ISRAEL in Rightousness By Removing a Lot Of False Self Pleasing Worship and Restoring The True Worship to The GOD of ISRAEL which Brought Blessing And Wealth and Prosperity To The Land Of ISRAEL Almost All The People LOVE Their King And Their GOD BUT unfortunatily He Died And His SON Became KIng IN ISRAEL BUT HE Listen TO BAD EVIL Advisers and sin Greatly Because HE THE KING RESTORE EVIL WORSHIP BACK TO THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND MAKE THE NATION SIN AGAINST GOD, AND GOD send JEREMIAH TO TELL THE PEOPLE TO REPENT and IF NOT HE GOD WOULD BURN UP THE TEMPLE AND THE ENTIRE CITY IF THEY did Not REPENT,Well The King And His Counclers Constanly REFUSE TO LISCEN To WHAT GOD SAID THROUGH THE MOUTH OF HIS PROFIT BUT RATHER TRY TO KILL The Profit for Warning Them ,So They Tie up The Prophet OF GOD AND CAST HIM IN THE CITY SUAGE to die BUt a NOBLE MAN BEG FOR THE LIFE Of JEREMIAH Because HE Fear THE WRATH OF GOD So THEY PULL UP THE Pophet out Of THE CITY SUAGE with SOME ROTTEN RAGS Tied together, All That JEREMIAH TELL the King Began TO Take Place, his city was Surrounded By the Enemy and still he did not Liscen, after all His Trouble JEREMIAH Did Not Want To Work For GOD anymore So He Refuse To Prophecy To The Nation Of ISRAEL, BUT The Power of GOD SPIRIT was alive still within His BODY That He Could Feel The Anointing moving Like The fire Of GOD Burning in The Very BONES of His Body That He Had To Go Back And ProphecyTo The Nation again Because GOD Word was still in His Mouth,and alive in his SOUL as it is written in Chapter 1 of Jeremiah GOD Cannot LIE OR FAIL What he said Must Come To past, GOD did DESTROY the City Because The People and King Did Not REPENT, the same goes for us today  JOHN the Baptise said to REPENT for the Kingdom Of Heaven is at Hand, JESUS IS Coming Very Soon so Little sister Get Ready For the RAPTURE his at hand He that Have The SON of GOD HAVE LIFE JESUS his your anawer for Heaven Dont give up now we are very close. Make SURE your salvation aligns with "The Gospel of Christ" (Acts 2:42; Galatians 1:6-9) for THE TIME "IS" NIGH!

    Have you noticed Paul had a problem (in the flesh) with "Fire shut up in his bones" as well.

    Romans 9:1-3 "I say the TRUTH in Christ, I LIE NOT, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, (v2) That I have GREAT SORROW in my HEART. (v3) For I COULD WISH THAT MYSELF WERE ACCURSED FROM CHRIST FOR MY BRETHREN, my kinsmen according to the flesh."

    Therefore, you see, those who have been "chosen by GOD" have no choice!  It is as "Fire shut up in our bones" whether man likes it or not:  WE MUST TELL!

    Sometimes I go back and look at responses given to questions on HP, and wonder "Who wrote that?"  I then GIVE GOD THE GLORY, for MOST of what I write, is not from me!  Then I say, "LOOK AT JESUS!"

    HALLELUJAH!

    GIVING HIM ALL THE GLORY!

    OH YES!!

    THANK YOU JESUS!!
