There is a correlation between the Puritans of the 17th century and present day Evangelicals. Each have a very strict dogmatic faith which does not leave room for levity. Both have a doctrine of a severely judgmental and punishing God.
Both believe that women are supposedly inferior and should be subordinate to male authority. They also believe that the main purpose of womanhood is marriage and motherhood. They further portend that the modern female is satanic in their orientation.
They strongly believe in a Hellfire. Hell is the important component in the ideology of Puritans and Evangelicals. They adamantly believe that their religion is the ONE and ONLY TRUE religion and all others are totally false.
They are also mistrustful and/or unaccepting of outsiders. They believe that outsiders should be either punished and/or banished. With the Puritans, the main outsiders were witches whom they hanged while with the Evangelicals it is the LGBT community which they are ostracizing in one way or other!
