Why Does God Not Speak Through A Prophet Today?

To clarify, I mean like in the Bible. He spoke to Moses, he told Noah to build an ark, He talked to Adam. Why all of the sudden did he abandon us. He says he doesn't change, why the massive change after Christ. You seem very religious and I was wondering if you could quote some scriptures. It is a question I have pondered a long time with no answer.

I guess having a prophet for the world is outdated then. I always thought that God didn't change but it appears he does. So if I am looking for enlightenment I must pick who I want to follow and God has no direct presence on the earth.
