There are many scriptures on prayer and why God does or does not grant what we ask in prayer. James 4:3 comes to mind: "You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures." Those who follow the 'name it and claim it' or the 'prosperity gospel' may fall into this category.
1 John 5:14-15 tell us, "This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him."
1 John 3:21-22 "Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight."
The heart we are to have before God is one of "Not my will, but Thy will be done." We need to trust Him as our Shepherd and trust in His Word, for He will not fail us. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
Praise God you have a job, as so many with families do not. I have been unemployed (when the recession hit) and have since had a job for the last two years now. I may not make what I used to, but I make enough to provide for my child's an my needs. Without or with a job, God sees me through. "The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not want [Greek: chaser - to lack, need, be lacking, decrease]" (Ps 23:1).
