Speaking in tongues, there must be a scientific explanation?
Glossolalia, or speaking in tongues, can actually result from a disturbance in the brain's left hemisphere in the area responsible for language. Another explanation is simply the repetition of sounds already known to the speaker but combined in a way to make them unintelligible to anyone else. You're right; there is a scientific explanation for it.
No, it's spiritual. There is no scientific explanation for speaking in tongues. Only those who have not experienced it would scoff. But this should be expected from one who has not encountered the Holy Spirit.
Generally the junk you see on TV or online of people "speaking in tongues", is just that: Junk.
But really speaking in tongues, is more like meeting someone from India, and speaking to them as if you were both speaking the same language.
This is why in the book of Acts chapter 2; it talks about how there were a bunch of Jews gathered together from all different nations, suddenly able to understand each other, without an interpreter. It is a supernatural event, something unable to be explained. I wouldn't even begin to speculate on the mechanics behind it, but I trust the source of that "Holy Spirit" which can do things like this.
I mean, there's a scientific explanation for how the universe exploded from nothing, but it really isn't all that scientific. Nothing doesn't just explode, does it? That sounds more like magic than science. You might as well just say, "God did it."
Not everything can be rationally explained, and love is one of those things. How do you rationally explain a God who personally died for the sins of the entire world? Jesus was either crazy, or, really was God. There's no middle ground, so either miracles like speaking in tongues is possible even if not explainable, or it's just a lie.
Well, to believe it is a miracle, you'd first have to drop the need for a scientific explanation, but I suppose it wouldn't be any different than some of those futuristic shows that have something like a "universal translator". Why wouldn't God be able to do something like that, if God really does exist?
But if you invoke God's name to explain speaking in tongues, the argument becomes reductive, simply explaining every phenomena the same way. For many people, that's not sufficient to satisfy basic human curiosity about our behavior.
And yet, at the smallest level in all of known creation, quanta are for all intents and purposes, a one-dimensional object. Literally just bits of information, as if it were a part of a language that God literally spoke into existence? I think so.

Why must there be a scientific explanation for speaking in tongues? I mean, why must there be a scientific explanation for anything? Science is from man, and tongues are from God, who is above man. We cannot understand everything, and many things cannot be scientifically explained, yet they are real. I've never spoken in tongues myself, but I have had a couple of instances where I clearly heard them in my mind when I was praying.....and the Bible says that the Spirit intercedes with words that cannot be uttered. I think that's what was happening with me. I have seen and heard testimonies of many, many people who recieved the gift of tongues. How can man (science) prove something that is from God? They can't really.
scientific? I think not! It is the power of the Holy Ghost which comes from God as a gift. Nothing scientific about that! It comes from the one who created us and knows our very fiber. Or do you believe as the scientist that we all evolved from apes? I didn't believe that when I was in school then and won't ever believe it. No, I'm not a Bible scholor nor hold a degree in theology. I just know Jesus for myself and believe that He is my Lord and Savior. We all have that...free will to believe what we will. You say scientific, I say not!
