There are many views on what religions do to people. Christianity is not separate from the other faiths, religions, or cults. They all affect their congregations in varied ways. Many feel their religion is the only path to salvation. Those who see themselves as better than others feel big and proud that they are the "chosen" few. On the other hand, putting adverse ideas into the minds and hearts of children before they can discern what is real or imagined does cause many to feel small, insignificant, and inferior, secondary to their impressions of low self worth, unfounded fears, and unfounded guilt imposed by their religions, and do tend to promote bigotry and hatred for others on a personal or global scale.
There are certainly more negatives imposed on society in general than positives. Those "positive" attributes are not necessarily associated with the religion itself, but rather by the positive upbringing of their enlightened parents.
