What is accomplished by torturing someone forever in hell? After all, isnt punishment corrective and not vindictive?

Where else is the Almighty going to place the Devil, his demons and the damned? Jesus said, "Then He will also say to those on the left, 'Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels!'" Matthew 25:41
And what version of the Bible did this come from? And keep in mind that the KJV and all other versions other than Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic are translations of translations of these three versions colored to instill fear and force conversion
The only translation that saw the original Hebrew was in the form of the Greek Septuagint. The Massoretic texts were compiled between the seventh and thirteenth century A.D. The New Testament was written in Kione Greek and is still read to this day.
I appreciate your thoughts on this matter, but I don't see where souls will go once they have paid their debt to God. Once souls see the Almighty in His glory, there will be no need for faith and without faith one cannot please God. So then what?
There is nothing free about your freewill according to your beliefs sister, because if what you say is true. The price for having a freewill will be more than most can bear.
Yeah, SOM, being accountable for freedom of choice can be a pain in the butt. As Jesus said, "Don't fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." - Matthew 10:28
I have come to notice something about you CJ. I use to find you interesting, but you have an answer for everything. Anyone unwilling to end an opinion with a question mark is the last person anyone should listen to.
SOM, I think you misunderstand my comment: Hell isn't the price for free will but it is the result of some's choosing.
If I want to feel the sun on my face then choose to stand in the shade, I don't blame the sun nor the shade for my choice.
Yes, SOM, I have come to notice something about you, too. Your arguments are weak and you hate it when people are persistent and do their homework. I am sorry I cannot be weak-minded and wishy washy so you can sway me with doctrines of devils.
@Stacey, so God who wills and desires to save all (1Tim2:3-4) has made mans will soveriegn over His own will? For Him nothing is too hard, but our free will makes saving all too hard for Him. I get it.
Mick: I am all ears...please educate me. So, how can you account for the secular U.S. government? How can you account for the atheistic governments of China and Russia? These countries usurp control over the masses, yet God is nowhere to be found.
"Vengeance is mine, says the Lord...I will repay."
I already know your take on hell CJ, but the question remains, what does God accomplish by eternally torturing anyone? After all, if hell exists, He created it, and all what He creates is good and for His purpose and pleasure. As for your question,
God does not torture anyone - but their consciences will be seared and their souls set afire with despair. Their torment is a byproduct of their rebellion, indifference, and disbelief. The "cursed" will lay down in a bed of flames made for the Devil
hey, if God created hell for His purose and pleasure, it is He who makes them suffer eternally, because everything has a source.
BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOM..... You just summed everything up in a nutshell. Those who do not accept God belong to the devil.
If that is true, then God is a hypocrite with double standards.
No it is people who will not accept the TRUTH who have double standards. The only way to heaven is through the blood of Jesus Christ.
SOM: I trust the Almighty and Yeshua without reservation. Yes, the Almighty created hell, but it was to be a place of torment and like everything God created - He made it very well. Satan's kids will follow the father of lies into judgment and fire.
You both put your trust in a image of a tyrant. He who commands us to love, bless and forgive our enemies but throws His in hell? I call it do as I say, not as I do. I get it. Your image of God reminds me of this idol in Dan 3:1-6.
That doenst answer the question as to what the purpose if for eternally torturing someone.
The purpose of eternal fire was for the Devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). We also see from this passage that the Almighty sees those who live their lives apart from Him as "cursed". They, too, will be cast into the flames prepared for the Devil.
Aw so God made hell for the devil and his angels (lol), but through His infinit wisdom, He failed to see that most of His creation would end up there as well.
