Any mental or emotional "attachment" will affect one's views of things, including the Bible and Christianity.
The stronger that attachment, the more unwilling one will be to see things that might conflict with that attachment.
Salvation is about spiritual reawakening. If someone is too attached to this physical existence (sex, food, possessions, status, identity, etc.), they will miss the opportunity to be free of ego (which hungers for such mortal things).
Let me give you a more mundane example. Say a person loves junk food. When he finds out that the junk food is killing him, he goes into denial and continues to eat the poison that's killing him. That's attachment! Western food and body chemicals are killing us. Sure they look good and taste good, but they are poison. The highest rates of cancer are in those countries that eat a Western (American / West European) diet. Beef is not carcinogenic (despite the lies we're told); but the hormones they pump into the beef are. Sunshine is not carcinogenic (contrary to the Medical-Pharma Industrial Complex); but the sunblock stewing on your skin, undergoing chemical breakdown in UV, is. Can you walk away from such things?
And let's look at the insanity that's destroying America -- Corporate Party run government, spending like drunken pirates with a stolen credit card. They have the hubris to call tiny reductions in the massive increases in spending, "spending cuts." That's a laugh. And the few Congressmen who get it seem to be talking to deaf buffoons in those hallowed halls now corrupted. National debt skyrocketed under Bush, doubling in 8 years to $10 Trillion. Debt accelerated under Obama to $16.3 Trillion in 4 years. All because Congress had a "supplier" without a conscience -- the private Federal Reserve. Can you walk away from that madness? Can you stop buying from all Corporations?
And 9/11 was an inside job. If you're American, can you overcome your attachment to status and identity to see the proof of this? Or are you too attached to "America, right no matter what?" Can you not see the shredded and tattered Constitution?
We are attached to many things, on many levels. We have to practice letting go. We have to practice not placing such importance on worldly things. We have to decide to step away from such abominations and not cling to them, for they will kill us.
Don't be "of" this world. Be a child of God who is merely "in" this world, but "of" the Heavenly Father.
