   Jesus was a moral philosopher, religious teacher and healer purported to have lived in early First Century Palestine. There is a decent amount of evidence that no one ever fitting his description or life-story ever actually existed though disproving it entirely is unlikely. (see: the youtube series Excavating the Empty Tomb, by TruthSurge)
   
   Supposing he did exist many of the miracle stories and other supernatural events ascribed to his life are likely the product of legendary embellishment - as with many other ancient figures and supposed Messiah's throughout the centuries.
   
   As a moral teacher Jesus was pretty hit or miss, though many of his more famous sayings, such as the Golden Rule, have become mainstays of popular culture. He also said and did some downright questionable things, such as cursing a fig tree for not being in bloom when it wasn't it's SEASON to be in bloom; telling his disciples that if they loved their families more than they loved him that they were unworthy; and claiming that lusting after a married woman was like committing adultery with her (adultery was punishable by DEATH in the Old Testament).
   
   From a story perspective Jesus' best moments are when he seems the most human and the least divine, at least in my opinion. The scene in Gethsemane where Jesus is crying out to God because he doesn't want to be crucified, even to the point where he sweats blood, is a nice touch that shows us Jesus' humanity. At any rate Jesus being human, rather than divine (or some bizarre combination of the two) would make his sacrifice an actual sacrifice and thus make it meaningful.

      I like ur style!  Insightful answers from a brave seeker of answers (I won't say seeker of truth, for afterall "what is truth"? ) I too DO love quotes attributed to Jesus-my favorite, the Beatitudes and  the Golden Rule - (brilliant translation).

      It is perfectly reasonable to dismiss absurd claims when there is no evidence for them. If you claim to have really followed a rainbow to a pot of gold but have no evidence I can reject that claim. The ignorant thing would be to assume it's true.

   A son of God, just as we all are children of God.
   
   I use the word "we" with caution, because too many people reject their true selves in favor of their mortal egos, and egos are definitely not children of God.
   
   Yehoshua of Nazareth is a supremely enlightened spiritual being who had inhabited a body by that name about 2000 years ago. He is spiritual leader of a large part of humanity, though a great many of them follow him in name only.
   
   Even with all of the miracles that I've seen, I still worry that I may not recognize him when he returns. Even I am still too attached to my ego and not yet worthy.
   
   I hunger to be like him, but I'm also still too attached to the things of this world. So, I keep practicing letting go of attachments.
   
   He gave us a supreme lesson on the cross -- to give up our false self (ego) -- to let it die. Only with the death of ego can we ever hope to have the true self fully reawaken -- what he called being reborn (spiritually).
   
   I have tasted this kind of rebirth. I have been outside of my physical body and been able to see without the use of human eyes. The CIA tried to make this work a few decades ago -- remote viewing, but they were too selfish and skeptical. They didn't realize that the skepticism they clung to included the potent bias of doubt which kills all miracles.
   
   Peter found this out when he stepped out of his storm-tossed boat onto the unsettled Sea of Galilee to stand before his master. As long as he did not have doubt, he was able to bypass reason and physical continuity to obey his master. Only when doubt returned did he sink into the water.
   
   Only recently did I realize what it was that allowed me to be free of my physical body that evening, 42 years ago. The spiritual counseling involved questions of generosity toward other people -- thinking nothing of the self (ego). And it was only when I became "self-conscious" about light passing right through me, that I lost those few moments of freedom and spiritual clarity.
   
   The lesson was clear. Selflessness -- the kind that the Nazarene showed us -- is key to breaking the bonds of the physical universe and regaining the freedom we once had with God, the Father.

   He was cool. He had his shit together. People have different view of him. A fake, the son of god, a real person who existed but didn't have all of those "powers". Non the less, he was an inspirational man because of the way he lived. In that sense it doesn't matter if he really did exist because the teachings of life that are presented can help one to understand the directions of one's own

      In fact I thought that it was very good. Only one thing. When we approach topics that may be reverential to others, and especially if it goes global, it is a mark of kindness to watch certain words, like 'shit' for example.

   I think he should go by his original name of Joshua Bar-Joseph. When Saul of Tarsus wanted to bring Christianity to the Greeks, he assigned Joshua the Greek name of "Jesus" in order to appeal to them. He also started refering to himself by his Roman name of Paulus, or Paul, to emphasize his Roman citizenship. Since the Christianity that westerners all follow today grew out of these first Greek churches that Paul established in Ephesus, Thessalonica, Corinth, etc, we all still refer to Joshua as Jesus. But the Eastern Christian sects, like the Syriacs, Chaldeans, Assyrians, Coptics, and others all still refer to him as Joshua. Other than his name, I have no real opinion.

   Jesus was astute; he hung out with "outcasts;" he repeatedly rebuked the Pharisees (the religious who were into legalism); (considering the church's poor reputation, they would do well to take the hint and become more like Him); he never refused to heal the sick. He died on the cross and rose again. Had he not, there was no way Paul and the other disciples would have sacrificed their lives for their belief in Christianity. Being thrown into prison repeatedly and finally to the lions is not something someone would willingly suffer for someone who never existed. Jesus is part of the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. His birth was predicted in the old testament. He was and is real. His greatest commandment: Love others as I have loved you.

   Without Jesus, many of us would not have a friend to talk to in our lowest of moments on a great many different subjects or set of circumstances.  Without Jesus, we would not be able to face our fearful moments while we cling to faith regardless of our belief system.  Indeed, we embrace historical measures of all the biblical stories as a group of people who choose to believe there is a much higher power in the universe.  From childhood to maturity, our minds are introduced to a man who defines love and to a belief that God is no respecter of persons; that we are all loved equally and unconditionally. 
   
   With Jesus, we strive for perfection in all our virtues.  We strive to be kind human beings.  We believe that whatever good happens, it is because we continually give our thanks. 
   
   On the marketing products of "What would Jesus do?" -- this is a good example of how our minds respond to everything we are taught in a Sunday School classroom, in church, at the family dinner table, from friends we grow up, our grandparents, and primarily the actions and examples we learn from our parents and others. 
   
   From lessons, examples and information we research, we learn that Jesus was a good and holy man and walked his talk; that he is God in human form; that there is no man holier in our living world. 
   
   Excellent thinking question.

    He was an extremely pure soul. Born of a pious mother and father. He came gifted as demonstrated by His early miracles. God sends His Special children into the world when there is an extremely strong need. He came from the Absolute, was born of woman, and became God manifest.
    If I am sincere, I have to tell you that God and His creation are one. I do not separate. Krishna, Buddha, Rama, Ramakrishna, Chaitanya, Aurobindo and others, came from the same Source. They are like giant waves and I am a tiny one. The difference is only one of degree.
    If you are a staunch Christian and 100% committed, I support you. Simply remember and practice all that the Christ is asking you, and all will be well. I bid you peace.
