He seems more interested in the people rather than the institution of the church, but I doubt if there will be much modern reform as he is very conservative.
The same as my take on all popes, the batchelor head of a bunch of batchelors, telling people how to run their marriages and lives.
Mick S has hit the nail on the head. How in 'Heaven's Name' - and that's how they're likely to describe the advice they give - can they 'pontificate' on such aspects of life as Family planning when the underlying policy is to get as many Roman Catholics as they can tramping on the surface of Mother Earth.
Really old popes can't do much damage to the Vatican, that's why they choose them. Sure, the spiritual messages are nice, but they sound like platitudes.
What people really want to know are things like: why is the Vatican sitting on a vast collection of (stolen) art pieces from around the world? And how many esoteric truths is it hiding? How many of these cardinals sit down to a big roast lunch, and talk about love and compassion, without caring one iota about the animal they're actually eating? etc etc
MickS says it well enough, great answer that!
Just another charlatan...in a long line of charlatans...taking advantage of the ignorant and fearful.
I hope he lives and serves a long time so we can watch other news (like what's happening around the world) rather than waiting incessantly for a puff of white smoke in Rome. If other topics were as well covered among our news agencies we'd all be a pretty well informed group of folks. To me, personally, this Pope appears to be a very generous and kind man -- and God knows we need a man like that in an office that is so visible to the entire world.
Am happy for him though he does not come from my continent. I am touched by his humbleness and his shared feelings for the poor (being a Jesuit). Let's support him as he embarks on a mission to clean up the papacy that has been dogged by controversies in the recent past.On the overall, i think he is up to the challenge, based on my own assessment.
I can't look at any one of these members of a group that has harmed children so deeply. Call it judgment of guilt by association, if you will. Something switched off in my mind after case after case of pedophilia and cover-up. Right or wrong as my reaction may be, I can never again look at any one of those men with an untainted view.
I simply believe his goodness will bring out significant hatred as many "externalize" and promote their own somewhat hidden agendas in opposition to what he stands for and what people dislike about Catholicism. Yet none-the-less, he will stand his ground, endure and try his best to interpret God's Will despite all of the odds against him. He will do it with "agape" love and will move upward when he passes on...

The tower of Babel was a sign of God's displeasure with the uniting of mankind. The tower was destroyed and yet, the Pope has called for a New Financial World Order, which ultimately will break down the barriers of national sovereignty. This is wrong. Who does he think he is?...

Some believe the Papacy figures prominently in the Prophecies of Islam and Christianity - and that it plays a major role in end time events. What do you think about Catholicism and it's relevance to Prophecy?

Whilst our government lays off public sector workers, and increases various taxes, it appears willing to make us all pay £12m ($18m) to host a visit from the Pope for 4 days. The last census concluded that 9% of the inhabitants of Britain consider themselves to be Catholic. The Vatican is estimated...

Is this palatable to most Christians?Pope: I'll judge Trump after we see what he does.Perhaps I read this quote out of context but could find no Vatican context to put it in. I am a great proponent that we all use judgment every day and prohibitions don't mean the day to day judgment. But there is...

Would you rather sit down and have a talk with Dawkins or the Pope? Why?I would go with the Pope. It would be a very intense conversation that mostly involved me trying to convince the Pope that Catholicism is a bad thing.
