In regards to your personal beliefs, what is your source of authority?
I enjoy reading the articles by many of you here at Hubpages; however, I am consistently shaken by the fact that so many people write about Christianity, Jesus, God and the Bible and do so based upon an authority that I am hard-pressed to identify. So then, I am curious, for those of you who write about topics related to Christianity, on what authority to make your truth claims..the Bible, your experience, logic, a particular preacher/pastor/teacher/leader, a dream, etc.
The overall question below in essence slightly contradicts the main title of the question. A personal belief is simply that, a belief and is not always based specifically on an objective truth. In the case of Christianity, the bible, God, etc..., at best is based purely on belief as. Keep in mind again that the bible is a collection of books that people state is the word of God. There are some that state that the bible was written by men inspired by God. "Inspired by" is not always the same as "coming directly from". Each writer in the bible is writing from their personal understanding and perspective of who they think God is or who they want God to be.
With this in mind, beliefs (or lack thereof in the case of atheists) are generally based on a combination of individual biblical understanding, personal experience, dreams, and indoctrination (which may or may not be proper teaching)
Deepes, "Personal" does not necessarily negate "Objective". I personally believe that 2 + 2 equals 4' however, this is not merely a subjective perspective.
I believe I did specify that a personal belief is NOT ALWAYS based on objective truth. I marked a distinction. One issue we deal with as Christians is that we have debate the truth from perspective as if 2+2=4 beats 1+3=4 when it is the same trut
Agreed...you did in fact make that distinction. I would press you however on the last statement of 2+2 being the same truth as 1+3; I will leave that alone for now. From your answer is it safe to conclude that for you Scripture is not authoritative?
No that's not a safe conclusion to make. My beliefs are biblically rooted as well as in experience.
I am a Christian and use the Bible as the basis of my life (and my writing). I believe the Bible is the divine inspired word of God and that its principles lead to a healthy, happy, enjoyable (to quote Joyce Meyer) Life.
I am a Christian and I base everything on the Holy Bible. I study the Bible to learn for myself, I do not depend on man's opinion. Only what God has written.
There are only two valid sources and any Christian using any other is very apt to be and is asking to be mislead. they are the Holy Spirit of God and the scriptures and they must agree for any thing to be correct.
There is NO other way And an one that says there is should not be heard.

I have been told that my belief in the Bible and God is a threat to non believers. My question is, How is something you don't believe in a threat to you? If I don't believe in something I don't feel threatened by it.

Are Christians only purpose here on Earth to convert others to their religion?I was conversing on another's Questions and on of the responses was that the bible and christian's only purpose was to convert. I do not see where that says that in the Bible. Is this true?
